Exoticas

I've been using Exoticas for the last month or so and let's just say that I have a box of CoCo Nara's heading my way right now. I just find it a pain to have to cut the coals myself then having them pre-cut. Granted, I should have just taken my Dremel to them the day I got them all (probably going to do that to the rest of them to finish them off), but in the end I have a more enjoyable experience using CoCo Nara's.
(sic)

I completely know what you mean when you talk about cutting the coals and then having to break them. You have to score them with a knife which is really dangerous, then you have to break them with your hands, and who knows what sort of injuries can happen when you break them. Not to mention shrapnel from the breaking of the coal.

I had my brother take a pictorial chronology of my troubles in coal-breaking land.

Scene 1: The Scoring Tragedy, Unbelievable Danger

I'm pouting because of the sadness and stress this puts me under, and I'm really not comfortable with knives.

Scene 2: The Break

Letting the waterworks fly because of the agony involved in this exercise. "OW OW my fingers!"

Scene 3: The Aftermath

I think it's broken...I THINK I BROKE MY HAND!!! Gaze upon the redness of my limb!

My friends, consider the danger involved in scoring and breaking coals. And before you call me weak just remember......I WAS THERE! I break my own coals in order to feel pain so that I know I can feel. smile.gif

THE END

lol_hitting.gif Those pics are hilarious.

That's what I did at first, using my hands to break the Exotica's. Now when I go to break them up, I cut the score with my coal tongs (they have a serrated edge near the tips), then turn the stick upside down and hit it with a small hammer. Not too had, the force should break it along the score on the underside.

Like I said, I'm just going to take my Dremel to the rest of them now.

The easiest way is scoring it a little, not all that much and then placing the un-scored side on the edge of a table and snapping off the quarters. It's easy and painless. Scoop's method is also one of my preferred techniques.

not sure why everyone is having such a problem with the exoticas. for me, breaking exoticas is almost the same as breaking the japanese coals. then again, the serrated edges on my tongs are pretty mean, so scoring is a little easier. i just lay a paper towel down and all the dust and stuff just stays right there in one little area. not messy at all.
the exoticas do split, sometimes, though, when lighting. i wonder if the japanese style exoticas will split like that..

i also imagine they would last quite a bit longer than the average japanese coal. i've always loved how exoticas last SO FREAKIN' LONG.
