I Need Some Help With Painting My Vase...

Recommended Posts

Hey all i am thinking about painting my green base and I need some tips on how to do it.
1. is there a way to paint it and be able to take it off say if I mess up or it doesnt turn out the way I wanted it to?
2. if 1 is not possible what do I need to do to paint my base?
3. any ideas of what I should paint on it? general designs are preferable so that I can personalize it myself....

thanks

I know I just showed you this...but so you can refer back

1. not that I know of

2. Masking tape, x-acto knife, water to wash etching off, stained glass spray ( http://www.krylon.com/products/paper_finis...ss_sheer_color/ or http://www.krylon.com/products/stained_glass_color or for a solid white which I would recommend for designs http://www.krylon.com/products/frosted_glass_finish) the spray styles make it very easy

3. Look up some cool egyptian or modern designs...patterns look tight if you go 360 around the base

Apply tape to whole base, use X-Acto to trace out your design and peel those tracings out, spray etching or stained glass spray...wait, rinse if neccisary, repeat if you want more than one color and then peel the rest of the tape off

I found that the stained glass spray is a different chemical composition than normal acid etching...trace back over the edges with the x-acto before peeling off the final masking tape to keep that crisp edges

Thats what I've done in the past with glass mirrors, hope that helps Edited by duckhater

Great topic, my GF is very good at drawing and my newest Hookah has a plain base(green) so she has agreed to paint it for me! laugh.gif
Thanks for the masking tape/X-acto that is just what I needed to hear. I assume paints for glass will be at most arts/crafts stores? Gonna have to go get some materials soon, now I can't wait! Thanks for the info duckhater. Sraw, once it's painted post a pic, I know I will.

Yeah, Krylon is what I used...see above links, but if you call and ask for Stained Glass Color Spray or Glass Etching Spray they'll tell you what they have Edited by duckhater
