hi everyone :)

i'm 19 and from Hungary, and i got my own hookah for christmas... i've
been lurking the forums since then, and already got a lot of useful
information, so my first words to say are: thank you!
i still don't know a lot about hookah and stuff so i decided to join ;)
i'm not a total newbie, i smoked several times with friends (unsure
about the tobacco brand, some stuff my friend bought in Iran - lucky
freak) and i learned a lot in these three weeks. I still need to find
places where i can buy tobacco... so far i've only seen Nakhla, which
is nice, but i'm eager to try out different stuff :)

i have a total noob question, by the way. i heard there are different
types of hookahs... syrian, egyptian, etc... how could i determine
where my one belongs to? i have some pictures of it, see here
< you can also see my effort on coughing circles, thanks to Lord
Dorian ;) my hookah is about 76 cm-s tall btw (sorry, unfamiliar with
american measures... ) and i think it is from the Gaza Strip.
well, looking for to learn more, see you around!

Welcome!

Well typically there are different styles of hookahs depending on what
region your style of hookah hails from. The only thing that I know of
which makes your hookah an egyptian or a syrian is the way the bowl
fits on the stem.

With a typical egyptian hookah, the bowl, or head piece, will actually
go OVER the stem, while on a Syrian hookah, the bowl will go INSIDE the
stem. This means that there are two different types of bowl you can
purchase. On the egyptian bowls, the hole on the bottom will be much
larger than a syrian bowl ,because it needs to fit over the stem.

This means that when using a egyptian bowl with really gooey wet
tobacco, the juices from the tobacco will drip over the stem, but with
a syrian bowl, the goo will drop inside the stem.

Egyptian hookahs are typically much more common than syrians, so finding bowls will be much easier for egyptian styles.

Now this is just from my memory, but your hookah looks to resemble a
lot of syrian style hookahs, but your bowl is definately egyptian. I'm
just saying it looks sort of syrian because all the syrian style
hookahs I've seen have simialar bases and stems, but I guess I would
call your hookah an egyptian.

Anywoo, welcome again, and we're looking forward to your questions/comments!
