Tangiers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

well I made my second attempt on smoking Tangiers tonight. I got lots of smoke and no tickle but no flavor at all or just a small amount. I forget what this means. I used single foil with 3 cocos and this was a large phunnel. I packed the bowl pretty tight to the point it came over the rim a bit and then pushed it down below the rim. I then poked fork sized holes around the outer edge and then some on the inner edge.

Im gonna assume this was a packing issue, I saved the bowl and add more tomorrow. And then try anything else you guys have said. I have read everything on here about Tangiers and still a little lost.

Thanks,
Mike

Actually my next question is anyone have an idea how to make a large wind cover mine wont fit using a phunnel.

Appropriately sized metal can and metal shears?
And perhaps rivets? They can be done by hand in thinner metals. Just need the right tools - larger craft stores might have them.

Coffee tin, bottom cut so you can fold the sides up in a "V". Works like a dream when a manufactured screen wont' work.

I got mine from nic, who sold his stuff last spring.

Im with 3 coals there was very limited space and I was getting very thick smoke but no flavor. I packed the bowl tight but could go tighter also could use larger holes compared to snoopy's vid and raver

There seems to be some who can get Tangiers to smoke with the oddest setup - what works for me, when I use a large bowl, is at least four coals, of whatever type, most usually Jap coals. Also, I use the same fork I used to pack the tobacco to poke holes in rows across the bowl. From what I gathered from your setup, I would recommend more holes and more heat (though not much more heat). See what happens and report back. With any of my phunnel bowls, I never use a cover and I have consistently good bowls.

Well i repacked the bowl of Peach Ice Tea, which really didnt taste so much like peach ice tea but it was still sweet. I followed snoopy's method from his video and it worked great. I think just some smaller holes next time. I wasnt getting huge clouds but I was getting a decent amount with lots of flavor. It also seemed like 3 coals was too little and 4 was just too much so I will need to play with it for a bit. But otherwise great smoke. Thanks for the help guys.
