People And Their Lame Stereotypes

I am not sure if this has been posted before so I apologise if it has...

But does anyone here hate the fact that since the 9/11 bombing etc people have this huge negative attitude towards Islamics? I was reading this forum in my Business Studies class about religion etc and these people just mock people from the Islamic faith. You know all that crap about them all being terrorists and dying for 72 virgins blah blah blah...
These people just make my skin crawl with there friggen lame half brained comments. My uncle married a Muslim woman and I remember him and her getting crap about it. But then again they were living in South Africa and some (most) people still don't agree with mix marriages. Yeah so he became Muslim and I don't see them with bombs strapped to their chest.
Same with my best friend who introduced my to the God Hookah, she is Muslim and so is her whole family and I have never met another group of people that made me feel so welcome, so happy and just so god-damn awesome.
All those people out there who make these comments about Islamics...Rawr!

like black ppl that do only live off welfare and pop out lord knows how many kids and try to be gangster, same thing with hispanics and for that matter anyone else who lives off the money we work our asses off for to forward our lives.

Ah I know what you mean. A large amount of the Maori people do that exact thing here. I rate that the way to stop that is to take away the welfare.But they wont do that in NZ as thats just to mean. Pfft this country is lame. In SA if you wanna have kids at the age of 17 then you are on your own. Thats how character is made. I have respect for people who can pull through a hard time etc

Meh - I'm ok with steretyping. It's fun and lets you poke fun of the undesireable parts of life. It's not like stereotyping is a "White American" only thing - many cultures do it.

Stereotypes become stereotypes because they're true in enough instances to ensure people believe it. Yes, there are plenty of people who ARE NOT behaving like a stereotype - but the fact of the matter is people do these things, and they piss us off. I'm tired of the "it's not true" argument for stereotypes, because how would they BECOME stereotypes if people never saw the activity in question?

By the way - if you've EVER in your life laughed at one of those dumb redneck comedians talking about trailer parks - then yes - you yourself have actively participated in stereotyping. And I'm sure every one of us has done it as some point, so no sense in crying foul when others do it, while you do it too.

First of all that is just perpetuating stereotypes, these people do this and these people do that, I hate that shit. Either shut up or GTFO. Nobody is forcing you to live here. Im sure you have had quite the comfortable life, have you ever actually needed welfare? White people are on welfare black people are on welfare and im sure there are asian people on welfare but thats not the point. People are going to cheat the system not based on race but because they are greedy and lazy and that is universal. God I hate it went i read posts that piss me off so im going to stop writing, but you need to take a look at the life you live before you start judging other races.

Stereotypes are there for a reason, and they change over time. Its just taking someones culture and making a caricature out of it. As uncivilized and un-politically correct as it may seem, its just something that people do and I've grown to accept it.

Now my family is Jewish, and even though I don't believe in that faith, I love my family and my upbringing cause I know they brought me up right. There are plenty of people even in my liberal white-bread college that poke fun at Jews being cheap and having big noses and things like that, including my roomate. Do I care? Absolutly not. There will be Jews that LOVE to play up to that sterotype because it makes them feel more connected with their culture, and I have those at my college too. They in turn have their own sterotypes, and so on and so forth.

As great as it would be to think that everyone could be happy, loving, and completly prejudice free, rational people know that its not going to happen. Stereotypes have no place in a professional setting, or in government, that goes without saying. But as long as they arent planning to hurt anyone, what the fuck do I care if people think Jews are cheap or Muslims are terrorists or Indians smell or Mormons marry their siblings and cousins.

Trash comes in all shapes sizes and colors. You could label trash anything you please and it still wont change what it is.

i myself am an israeli jew and i have palestinian,muslim and islamic friends and we all get along fine it is just like with everything else a small group of people that fuck everything up for the rest of the people (usually the extremists)

Absolutely true. Stereotypes also divert attention from real issues. Distracted people are dominated people.




I think Americans in general have some of the worst ideas about what real muslims are like, and I think its most likely because we don't have any damn muslims.

The only muslims most americans know are the pakistanis who work at 7-11.



If you've lived in africa, europe, or asia, you probably know real muslim society much better than your average american.

I lived in france for 4 years, and I made several north african muslim friends (moroccans, algerians, tunisians). France has a large muslim immigrant influx, so you get some very traditional muslim families. Just like any other culture, I encountered a random ratio of assholes and nice people.

This said, i've never actually been to a muslim country, so I may have my own misconceptions.



I did observe that muslims and westerners in some aspects have drastically different societal rules and assumptions. I'm talking about ways of talking and interacting with people, generally accepted rules about politeness and respect, group relations, personal space issues, ethics and morals.

I dont think their system is necessarily worse, although I do disagree with some parts of it (i do the same with the western system), but I think these differences are what cause some terrible mis-communication and misunderstandings between the western world and theirs, and may have been a contributing factor between the current power struggle.

whats that supposed to mean? I work my ass off every day in the military and I probably get a fraction of what you get. I make less in a year than a Mcdonalds worker and I work in an industrial field. On the outside my job starts at $25 an hour but when I add it up I make less than 5. every person Ive met while in has worked hard for what they've earned
