piperjason
I have to admit that one aspect of certain ceramic bowls, like Mya's, is that they do hold a ghost. I guess that is because most of the ceramic isn't glazed so it can absorb the smell pretty easily. Well I tried soaking the bowl in a glass full of hot water and Oxyclean and I have to say Billy Mays was right. After an hour or so the water was brown and the bowl smelled like new.Going to try this with my vases also.

Is oxyclean toxic?
piperjason
it isn't toxic that I know of. it is water soluble so a good rinse should get it off. I think really what it does it react with the water to make something like hydrogen peroxide. When I have used it clean carpet stains I got the same kind of burns on my hands as if I was rinsing something with h202.
piperjason
actually, yeah it probably is toxic, but it is water soluble so you can get it all out with a good rise soak.I wouldn't drink it anyway.
mattarios2
ah i see, good to know, I am sure it is good with a good rinse, just wanted to make sure you weren't going to get hurt, being a fellow hookah smoker and all !
agentscot
Ive never really cared about the smells leftover in my hookah. Right now, every part of my hookah smells like nakhla sweet melon. But I know I'm not gonna taste it next session cause whatever flavor I use will over power it.

Should at least keep the stem and vase really clean so nothing builds up that you shouldn't be inhaling.
Canon
beer, it was thought of by someone on the forum a long time ago and it has never failed me.
mattarios2
yeah beer does work well. But I don't always have beer around so I just use water and baking soda. Sometimes dawn if at a friends house who has no baking soda.
zymerholic
Good call on the Oxyclean, I use it to clean all my brewing supplies as well. Just takes a rinse with hot water and you're good to go. I would probably make sure you use Oxyclean Free though, no perfumes or dyes.

MR Bubble
I use Polident/polydent (however you spell the damn thing), you know, the denture cleaning tabs. No dentures here though. Cuts the niccotine stains in my vase really well. Just use about 3 or 4 tabs in hot tap water. MR Bubble
