Apple Bowl...

Recommended Posts

people do that to get extra flavor... i have never tried it before but it should be an interesting smoke session to have a fruit bowl. but i could imagine that if you make the bowl too thin it would get mushy and soft from all the heat. Edited by modisess

i tried this last week, i have to say its awesome.

the flavor- not much difference

the smoke - about the same possibly a little thicker

length of smoke - the same effect as a phunnel if you carve it out as one so alot longer

heat management- easier than a clay

just the length of smoke with the flavor lasting so much longer was worth it but if you use a phunnel you wont notice much difference (mine broke recently)

yeah ive tried the apple bowl...the key is to make sure you cut out a hole that is just the right size for your stem...you want it to be sealed...but yeah it does take a lot of heat but its a good way to switch it up a bit

I have made my fair share of apple bowls in the past. The apple itself adds a pretty good flavor to the smoke. However, the type of apple that you use will determing the actual flavor that comes through. Red Delicious apples give a very pronounced apple tase, similar to what an actual apple tastes like. Fuji and Red/Yellow apples give the licorice taste that is associated with the double apple flavors of tobacco. Granny Smith apples give an apple taste, but it is not as pronounced as the Red delicious apples.

If you want a really in depth explanation of how I make my apple heads just shoot me a message.

I'll pry try that it at least once. I've smoked in fruit bowls before and It's pretty freaking good, but it is indeed a novelty rather than a standard practice.

Code I was wondering when you were gonna answer on this thread haha. I have tried to make the apple bowl but failed only because I tried to make a phunnel apple bowl and well....I didnt account for the bowl connection to widen towards the bottom and than...I had a split apple so I gave up but until next time! (which will be a while tho)

For me it was the waste of a good apple since all the heat went into the apple and required more coal. Gotsoft and doesn't hold the heat in.

Have a look at that video, the guy cuts an apple into a shape of a bowl and puts shisha into it. It looks good but has anyone tried it, and can tell me what's good and what's bad about it??

I've had good and bad results with the apple bowl. It's tricky getting the heat right, especially if your apple hole isn't big enough or is uneven. But if you get it right it really adds a nice touch to the flavor. Edited by [Elmo]

I've used an apple before with great results. But I prepared it differently than the video. I carved a circular hole at the top around the stem just like a jackolantern. Then I threw the top part away. I shoved the bottom of the apple onto the neck (mine was half inch thick). Then I made sure that I could see the pipe protruding from the apple once I had an aerial view. Then I put tinfoil with holes on top of the pipe, loaded up the shisha, then 2 layered tinfoil with holes on the top of the apple.

I attempted a Phunnel from an apple...but it was too much work..and I did not have the right tools, so I never went all the way through with it.

Taste does not increase much..but the bowl tends to last longer than your regular Egyptian bowl.
