Km Base Bit The Dust....a Moment Of Silence Please

Recommended Posts

Well guys after having my KM for a year (without even knowing it was a km) it's base finally broke. That's after it's birthday and it's first time being smoked indoors (I only smoke outdoors, b/c of the apartments I'm in).

I was putting water in it one night and it cracked all the way down the side, I fixed it with some glue just to seal the crack since it didn't break apart and then banded it together in a few places to keep it from shattering.

Well I was cleaning it tonight and the bottom half of it just fell off, clean break. So all may not be lost right now. I'm going to gorilla glue it back and once it's dry it should be safe to smoke with again, but it will never be my same base, it's got battle scars now. So if I find a new base soon (and get the cash) I may lay it to rest.

Here's the pics of it broken and sad

The white mark is glue mark i was doing to keep leaks from sprouting, but it makes the 1st crack easier to see

one last one of it sitting in it's pieces, the black parts are electrical tape i used to keep the crack from growing.

DUDE thank you, they look great, I might pick one up wink.gif

I think those vases look damn good, better than alot of vases that come with the KM's.

Glad I could help, enjoy

Man I am so sorry for your loss...if my hookah base broke I think I would actually cry for about an hour at least. But hopefully you will be reunited with your battle torn base or you will embark your hookah adventures with a new companion, it may not be the same but new memories will arise.

thanks man, that's touching and true. I had one break last summer because of a slippery grommet, but it wasn't important to me, this one is/was my baby even had a name and everything. If I can repair the base it'll def have it's battle scars.

If you didn't know that it was a KM, it must have been a decently old vintage style KM...Ouch, I'm sorry for your loss

That it is/was, it just had all the markings on the tray holder and the signature ports, no fancy writing on it like the new ones. But the bright side is I have my beloved brass stem.

That sucks man, I just broke my base too and I dont have the heart to throw it away.... Get some pics up if you can

I know man I read the post and saw the pics, that is just fucking sad, I hate it for you, your base was much more beautiful than mine could have hoped to be so I don't feel the pain like you do, but I can relate at least a little.

Repair attempts have started it's currently drying with gorilla glue in all the nooks I could find.

We can rebuild it, we can make it better, stronger, and hittable

Let us know how it goes...hope you can fix it, no point in buying or trading *wink wink* for a new one if you don't need it

wow, man,that hurts...

def use a glue of somesort...I'd say gorilla glue and then once that dries giving a coat of Goop, that stuff has sort of an elastic effect to it, so if the first seal fails, you will see it as it is partially dangling and be able to fix again, rather than just having it fall again and break more.

good luck and sorry for your loss there

I've been thinking about picking up one of those emerald green vases as a backup for my KM. I really like the artwork on the one pictured. I don't know if they all have that same artwork or what.

Gorilla glue has already dried over night wink.gif hmm I'm going to have to look into Goop, would you coat the whole thing with it or anything?

I still haven't checked how water tight it is, but it's not coming apart so that's the first good sign

just coat that area, I'd say go about 1" circumfrence to make sure you have a good bond for if the gorilla glue gives way

'

well I don't think it's going to give way b/c gorilla glue is waterproof and won't fucking budge, BUT thanks for the idea I'm def going to give it a try.

I must say though that the break was pretty clean. Ours pretty much shattered

Yeah I know I was def. lucky in that aspect, the fact that it didn't drop and just broke in the sink during cleaning was a big positive.

UPDATE: Gorilla glue dried over night and the base is holding cold water, but when it was just the one crack it would always leak with hot water so that's the next test (to wash it). After that I'll take pics and smoke out of it! Keep your fingers (or hookahs) crossed!

UPDATE!

Well guys my base sat all night and day letting the gorilla glue set. I put it through a hot water and a cold water test to see if it leaked. The hot water did leak a droplet or two in a few places around the bottom break. But 99% of everything seems to be water and air tight. So I've loaded it up with some Pippens Spiced Rum (thanks to Choice1080) and it's going right now, the clouds have grown as I've been typing. Seems like there might be something "off" but I think it's just in my head.

So after tonight I'm going to make sure the rest is sealed with gorilla glue and then probably get some gloop to finalize the seals.....

Of course pics are on their way!
