ronald_dooley
Well, I bought a glass screen with my last small phunnel purchase from Tarik at MNHookah, and I've been using it for a week. I have to say that I like it. I don't think it's necessarily a lot more convenient than foiling because it's a b**** to clean. I tried the light coating of oil... yeah, that just ruins the flavor. So, I've been packing it a bit low so that the shisha doesn't touch the glass. That's good for two reasons: 1) it prevents the glass screen from getting caked with impossible-to-remove burnt shisha, and 2) the glass screen creates a lot of heat. I mean... it gets hot.I tend to get a very good smoke (lots of flavorful, vapory smoke), but also a hint of burning. Anybody got advice on controlling the heat? If I had to give the glass screen a score, I'd give it a 7/10 for the moment due to the cleaning issues (this could be corrected if they used a higher quality glass) and the heat management issues... but take that with a grain of salt since I've only been using it for a week and haven't perfected the technique yet. I can see it getting much higher marks once I get the heat thing under control. One last positive note on the glass screen: coals last much longer. Since you're not drawing air through the coals, they don't burn out as fast as with foiling. With foiling, I can go through three sets of coals... but with the glass screen, one is enough!yours,Ronald
Scoop
in my experience with it, the easiest way to clean it, is boil it in some water for 10-15mins. then scrub it down with a sos or brillo pad. i didn't notice the coal difference you experienced though. same for me as before

I'd rather just foil in that case
D-Rock
For cleaning the glass you could maybe try some denatured alcohol and a razor blade, should make the cleaning much less tedious.

jfaltous
I use jet phunnels regularly... easiest way to clean is to scrub it with some copper or brass wool, the same kind that sells at the supermarket for cleaning pots and pans. Cleans off with ease, doesn't even leave any scratches... Even really charred bowls clean off entirely in about 5 seconds. My glass phunnels are all as clean and shiny now as when I ordered them despite probably 100+ uses.
