The Price Of Nargilahs In Israel

Recommended Posts

Hey, i'm an american, and for any of you who are also, u know that hookahs are really expensive here. that's why i want to buy it oversees. I heard that you could get it for like two bucks in turkey and like fifty cents in egypt. However, since I plan on going to israel very soon(might make aliya) i'm gonna get it there? The only question i have is how much it costs.

thanx for the help

I might have an opportunity to go to Israel next summer for the same reason so I'd be interested to know as well. 2 bucks for a pipe? Or are you talking shisha which I can only assume you are? And is it wholly possible for one to stock up and bring a bunch back free of concern?

I would also like to know the average price of pipes over there though.

VERY excited at the possibility of my trip.

i actually ment 8 bucks for a pipe in turkey. bc it's not exotic in turkey and egypt, it's MUCH cheaper. let's hope someone answers our question. i assume that since it's also part of the culture there, both among arabs and jews, it's also cheap

cheap cheap cheap!

thanx man. just wondering how cheap, like ten american bucks?

Well, the NIS to the £ is around 7:1
So £1 = 7NIS.
£10=70NIS which will buy you a good hookah

Which is around $20

So what you're saying JD is that I should bring lotsof cash?

And also how practical would it be to transport them back to the states?

Even though my trip would be pretty far off this has me pretty darn excited.

So 10-20 bucks for a quality pipe? the shisha must be dirt cheap....

More info please!

Would it make sense to just ship em to my place stateside or would it be at all practical to bring them back in a carefully packed largre duffel? I don't trust baggage handlers

I have gotten imports from syria at $33 american wholesale. If you take away the shipping cost from Syria to America Im pretty sure it would work out to somewhere around $15-20. That price is for KM and MZ quality hookahs

It would be sick if our trips overlapped smile.gif

My coworker is studying to be a rabbi so he has to spend a ton of time over there starting next summer and offered to help me with the paperwork for the birthright thing AND house me while I'm there. I think he said it would be a 10 day trip.

They are inexpensive! Many great hookahs are great prices

When I go back to the my home town...I am going to the Hookah street and I will unload everything in my wallet on whatever I like [there is a street there where you will see nothing but hookah on both sides of the street]

considering Israel is in the Middle East you can definitely find High quality hookahs at a very cheap price (which is why I will not buy online) and shisha that will cost next to nothing but be the greatest stuff you have ever smoked. I know this for a fact since I have been to the Middle East many times (Lebanon mainly) so since Israel is in the MIddle east they should have the same thing there.

Realistically speaking, in Turkey 8 bucks or less will get a little tourist souvenir hookah. This will not perform well from the getgo, and it'll fall apart very soon. There's some places hookah is very common (Istanbul for instance) But there's cities where it's as rare as anywhere in the West. Tobacco is a lot cheaper though. I'd buy 250 grams for about 3 dollars or 1 kilo for 10/11. Since the dollar is a little weak now expect prices to be a little higher

Forget the 50 cent hookah in Turkey. I was there in 1970 when the Americans made more per hour and they less. Now the par is somewhat similar you will not get too much of a bargain. worse, who do you return it too if it is found damaged or breaks on the way home? I was in the only hookah shop in western Jerusalem yesterday. If you will be here a few weeks, and want to smoke then take it home it's worth it. You get your recipt and can return it if damaged. The average Egyptian hookah which may well be chinese or Egyptian will be around 40% cheaper than for you online and no shipping to pay. I bought on sale 10 packs of Nakhla assorted to my choice for 40 shekels which is now $11.17 as the dollar here is strengthening thanks to the Bank of Israel buying dollars to back it up.$1.11 per pack.
so its not so cheap as it was. It is very fresh though.

Hey, first time post here. I'm in Israel right now, smoking my hookah in my apartment. I just bought it a couple weeks ago. Currently, the Shekel is stuck around 1NIS=$3.5=~7 pounds.

I'm in Jerusalem, and there are a number of places you should NOT buy a hookah. Don't buy at Ben Yehuda street (the main tourist road) or anywhere in the city center for that matter. There are a couple of large stores on Yaffo Street near the city center that are a little better, but are unwilling to haggle. Part of buying ANYTHING here in Israel is the art of the haggle. The key is to always be willing to walk away. I'll tell you where you should buy in Jerusalem.

The Arab Shuk in the old city is a huge, covered market with an insane amount of booths with everything from jewelry, t-shirts, fruits and veggies and HOOKAHS. Here, at the Arab shuk, you can buy at face value a nice hookah for 65, 70 shekles. However, you should be able to buy a larger hookah (~30"?) at a haggled price for that price. The key for transportation is to get a travel box, but many of the larger hookahs do not fit well into the boxes, and that's why I bought one that's about 20". The hookahs at the Arab Shuk are a much higher quality and the likelihood of buyer's remorse at ~$25-30 is nill. The nargilah here is quite good, but you should ask the shop owner to sell you what HE smokes, lest you get some bad shit.

Better yet, make an Israeli friend while you're here and have them buy it FOR you. They are guaranteed to get their prices cut in half, and for $20 (70 shekles) you can easily get a hookah to make all of your friends green with envy.

It's hard to get stove-lit coals here... I'm yet to find any. However, their quick-lighting coals put the stuff you can get in America to shame. These things light in under 5 seconds, but be wary of lighting them anywhere near your friends.

Anyway, good luck on making aliyah, it's a tough decision but it's the right one for so many people. I'm currently grappling with it myself. If you have any questions, just PM me or IM me @ rhapsodyonaroof
