barrenwizard
I bought a 250G bottle of Glycerin which I was curious about. I read in some threads that adding this would actually helps in getting more smoke from a Sisha Tobacco. For example, like NAHKLA since its dry and doesn't give out that much of a smoke compare to Al-Fakher.My dad just mention it to me when I asks him about it. He says that its poisonous, flammable, contains alcohol. Can anybody educate on this substance "GLYCEROL/GLYCERIN".And if it does help in making drier SIsha Tobacco into a smokier experience. Please tell me how. Thanks.NOTICE: I bought my GLYCERIN from a nearby bakery store, so I assume that its meant for consumption. Just worried whether it will cause any side effect if its been consume excessively. Thanks alot! Edited September 11, 2008 by barrenwizard
ColibriDon
Umm...I asked my resident pre-med student (Aka, my roommate) and he thinks that it won't explode but that he wouldn't he do it. I'd try it outside first and not inhale the smoke even still.
chinamon
the glycerin/glycerol that you bought is fine. it is food grade and used as a sweetener and as a preservative for some leaves.mix about a tablespoon in to 250g of nakhla and let it sit for a while (how long? im not exactly sure but id give it a day or so).read this... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycerine
MR Bubble
Try this link.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GlycerolInteresting reading here. I have a bottle of glycerin I use to "wake up" dried and dead Nakhlas. Your father may be refering to the last paragraph toward the bottom of the page. Diethylene Glycol sounds pretty bad. But I've never had any problem from good old regular glycerine. I think it's overrated though. I think it only gives a coule minutes of better smoking from tired shisha. I notice a sharp reduction in taste and I'd rather just chuck the dried stuff and get a new box.
Codename067
Veg. Glycerin can be used as icing on cakes and whatever, so its perfectly fine..however, not all kinds of glycerin are safe for you.Just make sure that the one you got is consumable. As for the experience..well its really only worth it with Nakhla if you ask me..brands like AF, Layalina, Tangiers..ect do not really require it. barrenwizard
Yea, I tried burning it, just a few drops. Notice that it was lit in blue flame. There's definitely SPIRIT in there. Or Alcohol. Not sure. Anyway, its flammable.I tried tasting it, just a slight touch of it. And it was sweet and my finger was going warm for a moment. Just like when you are stirring your AL-Fakher with your bare hands.Weird, anyway mr Bubble, about the taste when bad. How was it like? The flavour just turns mellow? But how bout smokes and things like that?Don't worry bout the Glycerin being non-consumable. I bought it from a BAKERY SHOP. So, yea its safe. Its flammable though. Tested by me with a few drips of it. I guess this thing has something that we can't consume excessively. MR Bubble
It really mellows the flavor. My favorite shisha in the world is plain Nakhla apple. When dry, it still tastes right, but is only good for about 15 minutes. With the glycerin, it extends the smoke for a few minutes (maybe 25 minutes) but the taste of the Nakhla apple is only about 70% of normal. Someone on the board once mentioned something about a half-and-half mixture of the glycerin and honey. Haven't tried it, but may do so some day.MR Bubble
Bulldog_916
It should be roughly 80% honey or molasses and 20% glycerin. In other words a tablespoon of honey and a few drops of glycerin per 250g of shisha.
AKammenzind
Eh, your dad's full of it. It won't catch fire too well, isn't poisonous, but I think it is technically an alcohol (though good luck trying to get drunk off of it... just won't happen. period. It will put up a lot of smoke if you toss a coal on it (go ahead, try it out...), and that's the effect it gives to shisha. Shisha - Glycerine = shitty smoke. It also makes a decent sweetener for mild teas where sugar just doesn't taste right. And it's a good moisturizer if you've got really dry hands during the winter.Just check the ingredients and make sure there's no other stuff added, most likely though it's just plain glycerine... vegetable or otherwise there is no chemical difference. TizaNabi
I read a long time ago that the % is a teaspoon to 25 grams. You can use less. Glycerin is often used as a sweetner in foods. Even though Nakhla is a dry shisha adding glycerin to it takes away the taste. Try honey in Nahkla- its great.QUOTE (Bulldog_916 @ Sep 11 2008, 10:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>It should be roughly 80% honey or molasses and 20% glycerin. Oggie505
I have never had to add anything to nakhla. It takes more heat than the norm, but produces good clouds.
mattathayde
glycerin vs nitro glycerin.dad things nitro glycerine which is well duh bad but it is used in very very small qualities for people with heart conditions. glycerine is different substance and is fine... now it would be funny to get a little jar of it and drop a match in it right in front of your dad and see what he does (do it in private first to make sure its cool but i think it will be fine).probably will get him to jump -matt
