Mya Paragon

Recommended Posts

It's definitely a beautiful pipe, but considering its retail price, I think KMs or MZs are a better bargain, despite the lack of a multi-hose setup on those pipes.

I have a Paragon, and it smokes good, but certainly not as good as any of my KMs. It's easier to clean in the sense that since you can take the stem apart to clean (and store) it, but since the stem is hollow, smoke odor and residue can still reside in the crevices you can't touch with a pipe cleaner.

My concerns are materials, quality of construction, durability, performance, ease of cleaning. I like the size too. Of lesser concern is the cost. I just sent back an Egyptian hookah from Hookah Kings, very poor quality, bowl sat on stem crooked, neck did not seal to base, and terrible service just to make sure they were complete. We’ll see if I am really refunded my money. All I’ve read about Mya is “top quality”. I’d rather spend more up front and save the headaches of poor quality later on. Is KM as well made as Mya? Another thing, are stock Mya hoses acceptable for a beginner?

I think that the MYA's are more solid in terms of weight and material, but the KM's are also made with good material. If you take care of the MYA and the KM they will both last just as long. Get a 29 - 32 inch km because they don't come apart so they are tougher to clean, but anything in the low 30's isn't too hard to clean.

To be honest, KM's are just as durable as a MYA, Materials I have never had a problem with, and the performance is near untouchable. In your list you listed the only thing I can see being a problem for you if you buy a KM is the cleaning, if you don't have a tall faucet it can become tough to clean and you will have to resort to the bath tub.

I have a ~40 inch KM and while its a bit of a pain to clean, it smokes like a dream.

I think the km v mya decision comes down to looks vs performance. Both are amazing pipes (Ive heard good things about just about every mya) and I'm sure you'd be very very satisfied with either.

I really appreciate all the input with this. I guess it comes down to the cleaning. I’ll pass on the bath tub clean.

About the Mya hoses, any need for an immediate upgrade, or will the stock hoses be of good quality?

I own a Mya Paragon (with a couple autoseal hose adapters), and I use it whenever I'm smoking with 3 or more people. It really is a good hookah, but I prefer my MZ when I'm smoking with a smaller crowd, just because the smoke is a bit better (either that or I'm just more used to setting up the MZ and getting it to smoke perfectly). The Paragon's build quality and materials are all very nice, even though they don't quite have that personal, handmade feel. The hoses that come with it are pretty decent, but I'd recommend using a bowl other than the one it comes with. Mya's standard bowl just doesn't seem to distribute heat or burn as consistently as a clay Egyptian or a phunnel.

One of my local hookah bars uses mostly Paragons for their house hookahs, and they've been very durable and popular so far.

A couple of minor complaints: Occasionally, the ball bearing in the purge valve will come out of its hole after purging and roll around in the rest of the assembly. Unscrew the valve just a little bit and flick it a couple times to get it to go back in. Also, the stems on the Paragons don't seem to sit perfectly flush with the base because of the size/shape of the grommet. This causes the stem to lean just a tiny bit unless you get it just right. Doesn't seem to affect the smoke though.

I say go for it, and buy a couple autoseal hose adapters too so you have the multi-hose option. Edited by peterjmag

I was afraid of that also when I got my 35" KM and let me tell you it isn't any worse than cleaning in the kitchen.

to be honest it may be easier than a Mya that comes apart (less pieces to clean). It takes me only around 5 mins to clean out my KM.

1) Take vase, put dish soap in, fill with warm/hot water and put aside.
2) Take stem, and with a kitchen sponge and dish soap wipe down the outside.
3) Run warm water down the downstem.
4) take long stem brush, put soap on the brush and wet, run in through one half of the pipe a couple time (Basically as far down as the thing goes) flip and repeat.
5) rinse everything.

super easy.
