Hurricane Ike

Just wanted to see if anybody is around where this is going to hit. If so, be safe. Hopefully nothing to bad happens where im at but I'll probably be without power for awhile, that and some flooding. If you watch the news and see somebody trying to fly with an umbrella on top of their roof, it's probably me, so just wish me luck lol.

Good luck Mary Poppins.

I hope nothing too bad happens there. They are considerably in a better position to absorb such a storm than New Orleans or Mississippi. Does this make it any better? No. But I think at the end of it all you will have taken this storm without considerable loss of life or disastrous damage. Now it seems that the Gulf States are ready to do their jobs after Katrina.

Yeah I think since the last big storm in Galveston hit we've become a lot more prepared. The seawall is already full so I'm kind of curious as to how bad it will flood in Galveston seeing how water is already flowing into the streets and it's still about 150 miles out.

Yeah with winds being as strong as they say, we will probably loose power for awhile. I live in Alvin but I still don't think it will be that bad this way. I guess we'll see what happens soon, I think it's suppose to hit land around 12

We're expected to get some strong wind and heavy rain, but hopefully it won't hit us too badly. There's talk of canceling class Monday, though, so we'll see.

Either way, I am definitely looking forward to a nice hookah session in the hurricane. I did it while Gustav was over us and it was an incredible experience.

I've got two friends riding out the storm in Bolivar down on Galveston Island. Last I heard they were doing helicopter evacs on Bolivar and that was this afternoon, I do know they are alive though, they made an update on facebook that said "Trying to survive, Bring it on you Bigass Mother Fucker!!!" so hopefully they'll be ok. However I'm worried with this 20+ storm surge.

I can't imagine how bad it would have been to be in that things path. It came through Arkansas early Sunday morning, dumped 6 inches of rain on our place in about 3 hours time, blew down about 10 of my fruit trees, and left us without power and water for 2 days - there are still people in my area without power - and we are a damned long way from the fricken gulf. Yikes. Hope everyone down south made it through OK. Edited by GreatPigHookah

I'm not 100% sure it was from Hurricane Ike, but like 99%, but here in Louisville KY we got some strong winds (75mph) Sunday and around 200,000 are still without power. [Luckily I didn't lose mine, but like 2 blocks down the street there's no power]. We've got lots of trees down; seen trees fall on houses and cars, traffic lights out..It's a mess. I can't even imagine what it was like in Ike's direct path!
