piperjason
Just so everyone is interested knows, yes I will also vouch that the bulb at the bottom of the KM stem does make it a lot louder and makes the tray bounce a lot.I introduced the downstem to Mr. Hacksaw this morning and I will say that it is quieter and "calmer" but still pretty good volume from it.As an idea, has anyone turned their downstem into a diffuser itself? Drill a bunch of small holes in the bottom inch or so? Perhaps plug up the bottom with a hose stopper?
rigor
So how much total inches of the stem did you hack off ? Do you have any before/after pics ?
piperjason
I can give you an after picture, but it looks just like a normal downstem now (like a Mya I guess). Just for the forum and in the name of science I just went dumpster diving and dug out the bulb. I took off just under 1" of stem. Still lots of stem left...It really wasn't enough to make a difference in the stem.
Snoopy1966
That bulb at the bottom acts as a diffuser and a KM should rumble, and not be quiet!! It is cool though, everyone likes what they want. Be careful now that you cut off the end, because you might get rust.

The down stem is supposed to be stainless so it better not rust...
indian_villager
You molested it. My KM weeps at the atrocity that you have committed!
Z2G
My tray rumbled..I just bought a piece of rubber mat and cut out the middle and put it between the tray and tray base... Stopped the rumble
Wharbone
Makes me want to cry. Poor KM.I took care of the noise/rumble with my homemade diffuser. Sometimes I like the rumble and remove the diffuser.
piperjason
man I didn't know I'd bum so many people out... I mostly smoke while watching TV or a movie so it was just too much for me. Still pretty loud without the bendy straw diffuser.
NJE03
A friend of mine cut the end off to put on diffuser. Personally I would not do it but it definitely made his quiet.

SixPackSunday
i prefer a quiet hookah for tv watching, music listening, sex, etc... if i get a km i will probably mod mine in some way if its as loud as people say
Stuie
I got an extra Mya Downstem.. love that they are replaceable. When I have the time and a good workbench and clamp I might my try it on that. Since diffusers won't fit down my obelisk stem.
