OC4111
So, I'm up for a job opportunity in our company. It's a promotion from my current position, with the one caveat being, as you can see in the header, I would have to to move to the SoCal area. The job would be in Fontana. I know we got alot of SoCal peeps in here and wanted to see where they thought would be a good/affordable place to live. I was browsing around and it looks like Riverside might give more bang for the buck. Let me know.

OC4111
Well, me taking the job is going to depend on how much of a raise they give me. I have a ballpark figure in mind.
NUBBS
California is all expensive to live. I know, Im trying to move out and it's not looking good.
SimplexCoda
Riverside? Isnt that right next to compton? If so you dont want that. Also ya SoCal is expensive, so they had better give you a raise that is enough to pay for the cost of living plus an actual paycheck increase. Just my thoughts. Your living around Dallas right now arent you? If so its gonna need to be a hefty raise to cover those things.

MechAnt
Here's the low down. The one are affected most by the housing crunch is a place called Fullerton. It's in northern Orange County and is next to Anaheim and just south of Los Angeles. Their house prices are fallen to dirt cheap. I can't quite give a number but perhaps 600k? But that's for a pretty nice place for that much. Los Angeles itself has areas where the quality is starting to rise. However, Fontana is rather far inland to really live in or around LA. Rancho Cucamunga has fallen quite a bit in value as has, well hell, the entirety of Riverside county! You can nab a pretty baller pad in or around Riverside for CHEAPPPPP. SuspenCe
Socal is expensive, I live in La Jolla and places here are stupid expensive.I'm from Michigan and man, the prices there make it so much better for your moneys worth, but socal is beautiful and I would probably never move back east... MechAnt
In general, if you're just gonna even rent, it's gonna be fairly easy on your wallet. For example, an entire room to yourself that has attached bathroom, house is less than 7 years old, has a pool, and multiple other rooms with only one person in each while individual rent is $450. 6 bedroom house. That is exactly what my friend's living situation is while attending University of California Riverside.Me at University of California Santa Barbara, half a bedroom that struggles to hold two twin beds and two desks, non-attached bathroom, living room that is about 13'x13' and kitchen half that costs each of us $655. There are four of us total. You'll live like a king
Click
For the record Riverside is over 50 miles away from Compton. And Compton isn't all bad like it was/used to be.
rigor
Don't forget as well taxes are higher here in CA than in TX I'm sure. Obviously it depends on income, but just figure about 25% of your check is gone to taxes, to be safe while figuring out your budget.
OC4111
Yeah, that's one of the benefits of living in TX. No state tax.
