Do You Do The Flavor Of The Month?

Recommended Posts

Ive seen many mentions recently about flavor of the month hookahs.

at the moment i would say its probably KM/MZ and moving slowly towards nour

why did you buy your hookah? Do you follow the flavor of the month?

i chose the KM exotica because i like big clouds, very loud noise and im a whore for tall hookahs.

I remember when I first joined, the Mya Vortex was the KM trimetal of now. Both are good pipes, but as people had said, the KMs do hit better, which is why I think the KMs are more popular now. I have a KM Exotica in the mail now and cant wait to get it... I think certain hookahs come and go. Even if now was the big 'get a Mya', I'd get a KM for the more tradtional look.

I am growing increasingly tired of my MYA at an exponential rate due to the stem. It's all brass (cept the screw on downstem, and i think the little bowl adapter thing up top) but the inside is not smooth, its rough. No matter what i soak the damn thing in and scrub and scrub and scrub i cannot get the smell/taste out...

right now KM's are still big as are MZ's (KM's still leading) but nours are making a comeback.

Just bought my first hookah today! I selected the Mya Gold Paragon in blue from Hookah-Shisha.

I’m not sure about flavor of the month for hookahs, but then again I’m a rookie. I spent well over a month reading reviews from anywhere I could find them. I had ordered a starter Egyptian from Hookah Kings two weeks ago, and what showed up was total garbage. After sending it back, I got even more serious about reading reviews. This forum was by far the best and most helpful. What a great community.

Anyway, we have a nice home and I wanted to have a nice looking unit to sit in the foyer when not in use. I also wanted a product that was very well made, long-lasting, and good smoking. I got a lot of excellent feedback from this site and the final verdict was to go with either a KM or Mya. I picked the Mya due to the look and color as the reviews to functionality were about equal. Another aspect I liked about the Mya, I could have a larger hookah that broke down for easier cleaning. Someone in the forum also told me their local hookah bar used the Paragons in a commercial setting, so I figured all my bases were covered: durability, functional, easy cleaning, and good looks.

Hope I didn’t miss the boat on a better brand. I’d love to see it if I did. Maybe Santa will come early this year!

Welcome to the forum judge, i myself am new also and have found the exact same thing as you, this forum doesnt disappoint.

I like your reasoning for your choice and from what ive read and my mya experience (mya QT) you wont be dissapointed they really are beautiful pipes and they do smoke with the best of them.

Steve, thanks for the welcome. My stuff should be here by the end of the week, can't wait. My kids will think I'm nuts, second thought this will just reinforce their current view. also ordered the Al Waha sampler pack plus the ones they left out. Looks like I have 50 flavors to try before Monday!
Just took a look a the 30" Nour Bohemian

Wow, very nice. If it smokes half as good as it looks, this will be my next purchase. Very classy look.

From reviews if you go for branded hookahs *there are some equally or better unbranded hookahs* look at MYA (you already did) km, mz and nour from what i can gather

but at the end of the day look for what you find beautiful and you wont be disappointed as long as you dont get a cheap trash hookah they are all good and each have there own characteristics

I thought my hookah looked bad ass and smoked out of similar pipes before with good results. I also got a bad ass deal. Mya Obeliesk 3 250g tins of starbuzz and a box of coals for 150. Its good to be friends with the owner of a hookah lounge.

If I ever do decide to get a new pipe, it will be a Tri metal. Or...something around 40 inches. If a tri metal came in 40 inch models I would ahve already bought one.

i purchased my KM trimetal mainly because of the base... it is a pearl base with means its basically clear. i've always loved clear hookahs and it has almost a rainbow like look at times. that and because i've heard alot of good things about KM and the trimetal. and the things i heard are right plus more.

my first hookah was a smaller MZ. mainly got it because of the price...

I am not a flavor of the month smoker. I love my Mya's and pharoah, but I would like to have a KM and MZ just because. But i love the smoke of myas and the fact i don't have to use a bath tub or garden hose to clean my stem.

i'd like to think i don't do flavor of the month shopping for hookahs, but in a way i kinda do. when the mya vortex was all the rage(right when i joined) i knew at some point i had to get one. it took me well over a year, but i finally got one. now, KMs are the way to go, and well...i've got a KM hybrid on the way...so, i kinda do, but i'm a little bit behind the curve on when i actually get them...

There is not always something wrong with following because there is always a good reason something is the flavor, this is just a topic because i was interested in who does follow:)

with my sports i always try to stay away from flavor of the month kit because i like different performances with shisha my taste has followed but i had personal reasons for my choices also, nice and confusing eh?

I agree that there is a good reason why one hookah brand becomes more popular than others. It's partly a catalyst process. Mechant's experiences with MZs caused him to rave about them and then another person picked one up and raved about it and it just went on from there. The same thing happened with KMs when Snoopy and Codename raved about them. The trend has to start somewhere and then people have to pick up on it. Yes great experiences are as a result of the manufacturing of the hookahs, but there has to be a point that the information gets out. That's the catalyst.

I think some of it is as a result of us being a branded society too. If there isnt a brand on it, we think of it as being of lesser quality or not up to par. That may be part of the reason we cling to brand name hookahs. Unbranded means unknown. We fear the unknown. You dont see people singing the praises of an unbranded hookah they found somewhere. I havent seen it happen here very often. Plus money is tight in the college world, if we spend on it, we wanna make sure it's of high standard so we dont have to buy it again.

I bought a KM because they have slightly higher ratings than MZ and nour's seem overpriced and I still think KM's all-around out perform them. Nour's are all brass, and I was heavily considering the one at HC. I must admit I was heavily influenced by members of the forum, however I did my research, compared models and settled on my KM (I've also bought a QT since then but that is just for travel)

Do allow me to say this:

I, my friend, changed the way some people looked at Hookahs -through my YT vids-, let alone KMs...

I started the KM revolution [on this forum], and I am damn proud of it.

PS: Not directed at you or anything Ryno, you just had the best quote for what I had in mind after entering this thread ^.^

If a trimetal came with a pink, teal, and purple stem I'd be all over it.

Seroiusly though reviews and word of mouthaffect me alot not only in the hookah world but in other consumer areas as well. I dont have much money so I like to look clearly at what will give me the most pleasurable smoking experience and what I will not regret buying.

So after much debate I ended up deciding on an Exotica, though my first choice was the MZ perpetual river, since they look somewhat similar and KM's are said to be such amazing pipes, also the Exotica is a cheaper model KM and I love it 2nd only to the Thaqib, which is smaller and more expensive and I love partially because of the boho vase not the stem. So I plan to also buy a QT because I love the look of the vase and then I read sooo many great reviews. MZ will come later and actually I'm loving the look of the "new" MZ pear design with the funky looking pear in the stem. I very well may make that my next purchase, as of now it's between the perp river and that.

I like to think I don't follow trends but that I watch for the smartest most reliable buy...but I'm probably wrong smile.gif I, however dont really care for the look of the Trimetal so that's gotta count for something right? Edited by giant ninja robot

people were talking about KM long before you were even a member of this forum, back when hookahcompany had the hafa for $80 and the other KM (28 inch and red) for $70.

not meant to rain on your parade, just setting the record straight.

I'm talking hundreds.

Ryno, not a problem man..you are going to love that Exotica...really nice KM.
