crepenchicha
Mushy, that might be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. What an amazing gift. Make sure you tell your wife how much you love her, too General question about the design of these tables: does putting the coal almost directly underneath the vase have any effect on the temperature of the water and/or the smoke itself?Maybe you can let us know in a few days? mushrat
I'll let you know how it smokes. Its either going to be a hard draw because of all the tubeing or its gonna be a nice cool smoke... I'll even take some detailed shots of the mechanisms if folks are interested. I'm wondering the same thing about the coals and the bottom of the vase. I'm thinking it may even be too close for a wind screen. Perhaps have to try a can with the holes in the side and a solid top to reduce the heat. I'll let you all know later tonight. Teresa, my wife, has to work late so I'll have time when I get home to give it a go. We went out to dinner Sunday to celebrate instead of tonight. HookahCaterpillar
That thing is AWESOME I would defenitely invest in one of those after you let us know how it works. I must admit though I dont completely understand how it works, where is the hose coming from?? the actual table or what? Congrats your a lucky man

Sonthert
The basic principle of hookah is simple. All you need is a reservoir of water that a tube sticks into and a hose that sticks into the sealed gap above the water. You suck through the hose, creating a pressure less than atmospheric above the water in the hookah, which allows atmospheric pressure on the bowl at the top to drive the smoke through. It could be a table, a box, a hat (although charcoal hitting you in the head could be a real problem) or a couch. Me and a friend of mine designed a continuously circulating hookah bench. It had water that flowed in and out; it was a fairly large square tank, on which seats were placed and ports for hoses and bowls, so your water was always clean and fresh. It would flush itself and refill itself periodically, like a toilet.
HookahCaterpillar
So Tangiers, you trying to make some cash how about designing me a hookah? I want a hookah backpack that straps to your back with a hose coming out the side and easy to reach. haha
ZAP
@Tangiers - how did it smoke? And not all of these hookahs come with a chess board. The Social one probably does but he got his local. That really is sexy so you must have had a good valentines. Would the vase being directly above the coals not cause problems?Just make sure you get rid of that silver tray and replace it for a gold one. crepenchicha
Another question:Can you remove the tubing that runs through the table to clean/replace it? And what is it made out of?
c4r80n
Holy shiat i want one!Well my guess would be the coal will heat up the vase in the water, but it's a good thing because then the water will filter out more, thus causing a smoother smoke. This is according to Tang's calculations on other posts.

mushrat
Well..there will be a slight delay as a new one is brought in. I did mention it was slightly used so i was getting a good deal. He's going to give me a new in the box one for the same price I paid for the slightly used one. Good guy. He's also starting to bring in AF at my suggestion. I guess it is just a matter of who you know these days.
Dr. Tiburon
That's a very cool table! I don't think Socialsmoke has the chess ones anymore...I asked about them this morning when I stopped by their warehouse. They had one exactly like mushrat's, though...except it had a pink Bohemian vase. Flippin' gorgeous! The guy there said the coals don't typically heat up the vase, but I guess there's no way to know for sure without trying.Tangiers, I like that hookah-couch idea...just add a mini-fridge and I'd never have to leave the living room! mushrat
Dr.T: Did they mention how much they wanted for theirs? I think my local guys normal retail is about $300. We'll see how the new replacement smokes. Hard to find these suckes it seems. If this one is good may see if he's interested in a little business proposition. Dr. Tiburon
The price he quoted me was in that neighborhood, mushrat...a bit less I think. Don't hold me to anything (and certainly not SS), but I'm sure he said about 279 US$. The one on display was Syrian made. They are out of stock, but will be getting some more in sometime soon. The people at SS are really nice and seem to have their act together. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer any questions you have if you call them up.Enjoy your new hookah! Looking forward to hearing how she smokes. mushrat
The final chapter: Its a piece of crap. the new one came. same problems. took it apart, put metal elbow pieces in where the hoses pinched inside. no good. Tightened EVERYTHONG...some suction, enought o get a little smoke in the vase. Blow into the hose, and smoke billows out of the collar what attaches the vase to the table. Used teflon tape and wet paper towels...sill billowing. Nice to look at but im getting my money back. Not the guy who sold it to me's fault..hes as pissed as I am the supplier is selling junk. Guess I'll use the money for something useful...
