Ogrt48
Something seems wrong with my hookah but I can't figure out what it is. I've noticed over the past few days that I'm not getting as much smoke as I normally do, its also not as thick as it was. I've checked the hookah and the hose for leaks so thats not. I'm using the same al amir I've had for a few weeks now. My water level is always the same, right at a place I had marked on the bowl, same amount of coals, and using the same hole pattern in the foil. I really can't figure out whats causing this and it's driving me nuts. =( I also am using pretty much the same amount of ice in the water too. Sonthert
Three possibilities: Your pipe hasn't been cleaned properly and you are building up creosote on the venturies (scrub, with brush and either beer or 10% rubbing alcohol in water). Second possibility, you didn't stir the tobacco well enough and got more of the juice in the first few bowls (No solution, stir all tobacco well before each use) and thrid is humidity shock (open your tobacco container to the air for several hours before smoking). Check the holes of your bowl and make sure pieces of tobacco aren't lodged in there. So what I am reading is that the smoke is weak, but thew draw is normal? The alternatives are smoke normal, smoke strong, smoke weak and draw tight, draw loose, draw normal.
Ogrt48
I'll try again in a few hours after work.. I've cleaned it inside though with the scrubbing brush it came with. It just doesn't make nearly as much smoke as before, theres less smoke inside and I get less on pulls. What I do get also isn't as thick anymore. ;
yashman19
Even if you are doing everything the same including your coals, try putting more heat. If your bowl starts getting really harsh, and still no more smoke than normal, then we can rule that out, but for now, just try adding more heat. Keep the coals away from each other on opposite sides of the bowl, and rotate them as you ash them.
pavlakos_politakos
sounds like a problem with the bowl(ma'asselor bowl itself or the foil). you said everything seems normal so probably the ma'assel.try what yash said it should work but if you start getting that harsh, burnt taste take off the coals, remove the bowl, tap it on the top of the stem to knock off all the ash so you dont get it every where and blow into the bottom of the bowl(face up so the foil and ma'assel dont fall out)untilyou see the thick grey smoke stop thinning.should help. tjt486
what is creosote? aronparsons
Depending on how much you're smoking, check the cleanliness of your hookah. I had gotten lazy over the past couple of weeks and only rinsed out the base and bowl only to find out why things weren't smoking like they used to; I did a thorough cleaning yesterday and the smoke and flavor were back to their peak. Don't under-estimate the effect of a clean hookah, it does make a big difference.

Enlighten me[/quote]creosote may be a misnomer, I've jerk around with new names for things...creosote is a black, sticky residue that builds up in chimneys and flues. It is flammable, and has to be cleaned, hence, chimney sweeps. The stuff inside pipes reminds me of that....I don't think its the same stuff...probably. pavlakos_politakos
but you shouldnt be having major problems because of creosote unless your hookah is really old.just how old is it Ogrt48?

Ogrt48
Well last night I was looking over my hookah and noticed that large plastic stopper type thing on the stem that fits into the bowl had sunk down the stem about half an inch. I pushed it back to the top of the stem and its smoking fine now.
