Question For Km And Phunnel Users...

Recommended Posts

I was looking at various KM hookahs, lustfully, and noticed that most seem to have the stem sticking up pretty far from the ashtray. Now, my question is, if you add another 5" for the height of a phunnel bowl, will that interfere with using the windscreen? I have one hookah right now where this is a problem - the windscreen isn't tall enough to rest on the ashtray - and it is a tall windscreen. I really like using the windscreen as it makes heat management, especially outdoors, far easier, IMO. Is this even an issue with KM's and phunnels? If so, aside from not using the windscreen, how have you guys gotten around this? Or am I'm just being a picky little bitch?

ive been told that even with the extra tall, they dont fit right.

i dont use them because i dont want the windscreen sitting on the coal. i feel like i can taste the metal and it gets harsh and strange tasting

I dont have a KM yet (its in the mail), but I've seen people use a few pairs of tongs to raise the windcover to fit. I myself use a Tanquery gin tin for a windcover and its tall enough for my phunnel on a few different style of hookahs

This works too...got one on the way in case I need it for my new MZ.

The tongs thing works too, Canon did that a lot on his tri-metal

I just got one of those in the mail from HC along with other stuff (will post pics tonight) and it still doesn't fit over my phunnel + KM. If I use a pair of tongues it will sure fit, it is prob half an inch or so too short.

I dont even bother buying windscreens. i make them out of Foil so that they fit just around the bowl. They work awsome and are easy to make plus you just pinch them around the top edge of the bowl and they wont go anywere even if you move the hookah. Edited by Tiburonsrule

Honestly I have that same "problem" my windcover won't reach my ash tray on my KM with my med phunnel bowl. Even with the tong trick the cover won't fit properly.

However, my particular windcover has ridges on the top 3 inches of it, (like 3 or 4 graduating ridges) and i just put it right ontop of my bowl and the ridges will catch the edge of the bowl.

Try it.

I actually tried that, but my winscreen is pretty heavy and the ventilation holes in the windscreen ended up below the rim of the bowl, so when the cover sat on the bowl, it pretty much sealed off everything but the opening in the top of the windscreen. It completely snuffed the coals out in less than a minute by smothering them, and I KNOW these coals were lit well to begin with. I suppose I could drill a few holes higher up on the windscreen so it wouldn't smother the coals so much...hhmmm...I bet that would work if I did that.

These are some great ideas guys!
