Packing Tangiers....in A Small Egyptian Bowl

So I managed to score me a my very first Tangiers--Kashmir Peach. But as my bank account holds only pennies, I have no phunnel to pack it in. Instead, I have a small clay egyptian bowl.

So, can other broke Tangiers fans give tips on how to pack an egyptian bowl? Underpack or overpack? I've searched, but all I get is how to pack Tangiers into a phunnel bowl I can't afford at the moment.

Btw, since I'm in the OC, acclimitizing the shisha shouldn't take too long, right? I'm guessing humidity doesn't change too much from San Diego to Orange County. cool.gif

like ryno said, over pack a little, but what i do is instead of light and fluffy, i pack just a little too much and then push it down a little so that little bit touches the foil. it'll smoke just fine

orange county may still be fairly close to SD, but keep in mind that the humidity can change drastically from as far as say, 60 miles. i'm sure you'll be okay, though.

OP, I hear you... there is a tutorial on how to pack T in a regular bowl, so snoop around.
Here are the basics:

-take something cyllindric and put it in the bowl (I just used a spare rubber grommet)
-pack the shisha (around the rubber grommet or what have you). it has to be packed *really* tight, I'm not kidding, put some muscle in it. when you couldn't possibly pack another piece in the bowl, it's perfect smile.gif overpack a but too... just over the bowl's rim
-remove the grommet (or what have you). duh.
-double foil, toothpick holes in the phunnel pattern, poke all the way down to the bottom of the bowl
-after you're done smoking, there should be a spent layer of tobacco on top, in my case it was often a ring of dry shisha. take that out, keep the rest. next time you're smoking, put the grommet and fill the rest of the bowl up. i used to get around 5 smokes out of one bowl by just adding some fresh shisha on top.

My method is packing the bowl like you would any other. Pack more in there than you would otherwise. Foil. Press down on it (the foil) as to compact the shisha to the density it was in the bag originally. Now, from UNDERNEATH the Egyptian bowl, through the holes in the bowl, poke large holes with a skewer or the poker of your tongs or anything long enough to go through foil from the bottom the bowl. You will push the skewer through the shisha, this is a good thing, it allows ventilation. Now, after there is a hole in the foil for every corresponding hole in the bowl, poke more large holes AROUND those ones all the way down through the shisha to the bottom of the bowl, but not through the holes. Use half the heat you normally would if you were smoking Starbuzz or AF in your regular bowl. So if you normally use 2 coconaras on your bowl, cut one in half and use 2 halves. If you use exoticas, use 3 1/8ths of one exotica stick around the bowl in a triangle formation. The juices will run down the stem and into the tray, it will happen. Dont panic. Just smoke and be ready to clean the thing out after the session.

you know, Bullldog, i tried that method a while back when you suggested that i do it. it made no difference at all. not any that i could notice, anyway. i tried, though, man. i did it quite a few times and then tried it the regular way i do it and got the same results. maybe it did make a difference, but i didn't notice.

I've had pretty good luck with the method myself. You gotta pack it in there pretty good, but when you do, it's been smooth to me. I'd pack a bowl for you personally, maybe I'll take pictures the next time I do it that way just as a proof of concept type deal.

Thanks y'all, I'd would have never thought of leaving space in the middle of the bowl in a million years.

Hopefully, I'll have a chance to try it out tonight or tomorrow. If not, I'll have to wait a whole another week for another opportunity. wacko.gif
