Intro And A Question

Hey guys! New to the forum here, been smoking hookahs for about 2 years or so now. I also had a question for you guys. My father just bought me a mini (about 7" tall) hookah, and I'm trying to figure out how I would smoke it. This isn't my exact one, but it's of the same structure.

What is confusing me specifically is the bowl. Do these kinds not use coal at all? If so, is it sort of like a pipe in that I need to use a lighter? Thanks a bunch!

wow, that is not a design I've ever seen before.
The idea of a hookah is to pack the bowl with shisha (tobacco), wrap the bowl in aluminum foil, poke holes in the foil and then put glowing coals on the aluminum foil. All of this I presume you know, however, if your hookah has a very small bowl and seems to be intended to be used with a lighter I am quite convinced that it is actually not a hookah but rather a bong. This being illeegal to mention on these forums I suggest you find this out. If you find it to not be a bong, please do take some pictures of your hookah and post them here so we can take a look.

Hi everyone. New on face book. I'm in Vermont and I just opened a hookah lounge a couple months ago. With the hookah you have, you need to take the top cover (wind screen) off, fill the bowl with shisha, put a metal screen or aluminum foil with some small holes in it, on top and put your coals on top of that. I don't recommend using aluminum foil on a regular basis, since you will ingest aluminum particals.

Well, it was purchased at a place called The Holy Land, which is a Middle Eastern restaurant/grocery store, and so I am about 99% sure that it's not meant to be a bong because I don't see them selling such thing. I can't post a picture of mine because I can't find my cable for the camera, but it is the same size as that with the same bowl design, but the base is red glass/plastic and it doesn't look as ornate.

EDIT: I decided that just to be safe, I will either get rid of it or keep it at home. I live in a dorm, and it occured to me that regardless of if I think it isn't a bong, because of the size of the bowl and everything, most will think it is. I don't want to get in trouble for it, so I will just do some research and buy a bigger (though still small) hookah. Thank you for the heads up, Snacks. Edited September 24, 2008 by Sildrugtanni
