Hey guys, Sorry if this has been posted already, I guess whomever is responsible for locking up may. I just was curious as to how many people on the forum go to college? What are the smoking regulations there? Do you sneak it into your dorm? Do you smoke outside? Do authorities give you a hard time to smoke?

If you've graduate, how was the smoking situation in college? Any other hardships finding a place to smoke (I guess not, since you're a member of this board...)

I go to Towson University, and I must say that smoking here is pretty easy since we can do it in our room. Out of my roomates, only 2 of us smoke (I live with 7 other people... not as bad as it sounds though) but none of our roomates care... Plus, it's good that shisha smoke doesn't taint fabrics and the air as constant cigarette or cigar smoking would...

The fire alarms in our room don't seem very safe... We don't even smoke that far off from it and it never goes off... I'm sure it's not officially allowed by housing regulations, but I figure as long as we are cautious, keep it clean and care for everything in the apartment, we won't have any problems. (None yet )

It took me a while to decipher... but a plastic bag works better. And no, we don't have a universal smoking ban, although state and local laws are getting much more restrictive.

@OP Most places it seems to be ok wherever smoking in general is ok, so long as hookah isn't expressly prohibited, in which case you should make your case with the local authorities.

I've smoked outside all over Pittsburgh, and outside at Edinboro... and had no real problems. I've had police talk to me, but I've shown them my shisha bag (I carry a couple kilos and a box of 3k with me usually) and all is good. A couple weeks ago this cop had me take a hit and sniffed above the bowl to make sure it wasn't NHT, then he just shook his head at how much shisha I had, laughed, and drove away.

I couldn't imagine it being a problem unless you live in dorms or in some other form of regulated campus housing. As for me, I got to school at UC Santa Barbara but I have my own apartment and I just smoke in my room. I did take the fire alarm that was in my room out, but that was just so I wouldn't have to deal with it going off all the time. Personally I don't have any problems smoking. No rules or regulations to worry about, my roommate is fine with me smoking, and no nagging girlfriend to tell me I should quit.

Haha, yeah. At Towson, the TUPD smokes with you all the time. They say they're checking, but you know they just want a to puff when it's the same officer many nights in a row "confirming the contents of the water pipe."

im a sophomore. my friend would smoke in her dorm room but i thought that was a little sketchy and i also didnt have my rig so it didnt matter yet. we smoked out side some and the only hassle we got was from the ra's since you couldnt smoke on the "patio" of the dorm. or we went to the crapy lounge 100 feet from the dorms.

i now have my own rig and smoke in my apartment

I'm a freshmen, I have mine in my room, as do several friends. Our campus is "smoke free" except for several designated areas. Hookahs seem to be fine out there, I know RAs have seen mine and not said anything.

But I know a school not too far away where Hookahs are confiscated and looked at as NHT pipes.

I guess it really depends on your school's rules and the area's smoking laws...

Don't know what the policy is at McGill... There is a ban in Montreal, can't smoke withing 9m of an entrance. But profs and staff light up right next to the door (esp when it's cold and pissing). That's Montreal for you.
Never set my hookah up on campus either. parc du Mont Royal is so close to my apartment and much nicer to smoke at

Well it is definitely allowed here at Xavier University. In fact I just got back from helping in an event where we smoked up out side on campus and we were like a hookah bar for the night. It was awesome. Hookah was banned at Xavier for a couple years but me and some other kids made our case and now it is allowed back on campus. So if you go to a University where it is banned but other types of smoking is prohibited make your case and make sure to add in the cultural significance of the hookah and that it will help relieve the stereotype that Hookah is a NHT device. That's my 2 cents.

Definatly not a problem at WWU here in Bellingham, WA.

Ive smoked out side a few times and never have had a problem. I'd be careful in your dorm however, just stay close to a window (if youve got one) and youll be fine.

hmmm i really tempted to try and get a hookah club going here. the schools policy is if you have 5 people that want to do it you can and you get some money from the school to have the group, just as an example there is a pancake club that goes out and eats pancakes partially on the schools dime (well really its from the activity fee we pay and no one uses). and i mean there are plenty of persian and arab students here that smoke hookah and most of them hate the bad local places so it could totally work... hmmm i do need more coals any way, might be time to set this up

I go ti TLU in Seguin. I generally don't smoke on campus but I make no effort to hide I've walked right by the Area Coordinator with it and the haven't said anything. The RA for my floor is my suite mate and he doesn't care. I have enough friends who live off campus that I'd just as soon go chill and smoke at one of their places.
