newjacksm
I have shisha getting burned and getting stuck to the foil. I do my best to have it not overpacked (besides tangiers) to the point it touches the foil and gets burnt but I usually pack it to the rim (phunnel bowl) and at the near end of my session I take off the foil and its all burnt shisha stuck to the foil and there is still good shisha left at the bottom. If I were to get new coals going I wouldnt be able to get the good shisha left at the bottom, is there some technique im missing? Kathrynx
I'd pack lighter than you are currently (even with the tangiers), and try more heat management with your coals, moving them more often and such.
mattarios2
as already said move the coals more often, and pack lighter. But if your sessions are going well, don't change a thing, and when done just remove the foil, remove the burnt shisha, and add more and smoke up the next bowl. SimplexCoda
When i used foil i would get shisha burned to it like crazy, but my sessions were just fine so i say it doesnt always mean its a bad thing.
Cerberus
Yeah that happens to me all the time What I do is when the smoke is starting to taste bad, or if it is getting thin, just take off the foil, put some more shisha in there (making sure to mix up the new and old shisha), and toss another piece of foil on there. newjacksm
Oh alright ive been reading for a while on here and for some reason I was getting if it was sticking to the foil or burning I was packing wrong. the other day I packed a great watermelon bowl then I packed it again and got horrible results. I think it was my hole pattern.
newjacksm
some one who is familiar with layilani does the shisha need more heat then usual on a small phunnel? I am using 3 japanese exoitcas right now. Seems to smoke good now but then gets harsh. I move it then smoke gets thin
leadpipecinch21
use less coals and a wind shield, or some tin foil domed over it. ends up being less, but more consistent, heat which helps keep the smoke thick and the flavor going. EternalSoil
i would say 3 is a little steep, try two with a windcover maybe?
Bulldog_916
Try 2 in the middle. I find that if I'm not getting good smoke putting 2 on the edges of the bowl, I move them closer to the center and start getting the good stuff. The tobacco is more heated from both coals as opposed to one per side. You're getting residual heat from the further one as well as the heat from the one right overhead. MechAnt
Shisha sticking to the foil isn't necessarily a bad thing. I never have a session where shisha DOESN'T stick. It's been that way for many years and its never really been a problem
head_in_a_cloud
I use non-stick Heavy Duty Reynolds foil. Perhaps I shouldn't because of the properties of whatever it is that makes it non-stick, but the burnt shisha pulls right off without tearing the foil. I dig that, being able to use the same foil several times.
NickReppinThe909
dont use the same foil more than onceuse less heatuse less coal layalina is a pretty low heat tobaccodont overthink when you are packing just set the shisha in until its barely above the rim then slap some fresh foil on and poke your holes then put 2 japs on and you should be fine

NickReppinThe909
because if your burning shisha to the foil then you are only getting more burnt shisha flavor

bikeAholic
When I pack mine, I will do it to cover the holes and then will take the bowl and raise up to eye level so I can see if there's any shisha sitting above the top. If I see any, I just remove it or give it a little push down. :] Burnt shisha can EASILY ruin a session. However, I also cover my Vortex with two sheets of foil. It doesn't seem to affect my sessions.

Needless to say, it was a disappointment.
NUBBS
Also, do your best to fluff as much shisha as you can. That way the heat can have a proper flow through the bowl. Make sense? I normally fluff the shisha as Im putting it in and then use a toothpick to break up whatever I can.
