Apets22
After an awful experience with Tangiers the last time I smoked it, I will be trying again tomorrow after class. No tests, no homework, no anything, just hookah smoking. So to my questions.1) Ive had this watermelon for about a month give or take, it acclimated for about 24-36 hours before I smoked it, but it has since then been sitting in my closet in a covered container, should I re acclimate it?2) I use 3 cocos on a small phunnel bowl of AF, Fantasia, SB, everything, is this too much heat?3) Wish me luck. Codename067
1. You should need no further acclimation!2. No, 3 Cocos on a small phunnel is perfectly fine. Good 1.5 hours on AF for me with 3 Cocos.3. GL
Stuie
Drop Tangiers to 2 Cocos then add a third at 30 minutes just my suggestion. Can't hurt to put the watermelon out a couple hours before you smoke, just to be sure.
Balthazar
Is the watermelon the flavor you tried when you had the bad experience? If so, I'd say try another flavor. The last two 250g's of Tangiers Watermelon I've bought has been pretty bad, and if this is the same package that you tried back when you had your bad experience I'd say it would be unfair (to yourself, that is) to judge Tangiers as a whole based on only this package. Smell it, if it smells like the flavor it should, with no soy sauce odor, you should be fine.2) IMO, yes...too much heat. I use exoticas more often, but when I use cocos I only use two plus the windscreen, and add more later when they burn down a bit.3) Good luck! Over-pack that bad boy and give'm hell! Also after the large amount of shisha I just recently received I doubt I will be making another order any time soon. So for now, this should suffice. Also, I just opened up the container and it smelled soy-saucey with a hint of watermelon, which is how it smelled (to the best of my recollection) the last time I smoked it, so maybe I need even more acclimation? NickReppinThe909
you definetly need more acclimation, if it has more than just a hint of soy sauce smell to it then you definetly need to let it sit out for a while longer
Apets22
Hmm, I just assumed when I smoked it originally that this was the best it was gonna get, but no matter, ill open it up and let it do its thing.

If it still smells strong of soy, I would let it sit out and stir it well every hour or so. It helps if the container it's in is shallow and wide versus deep and narrow - more surface area exposed to the air will help it acclimate faster, which is why stirring it also helps. I've acclimated my Tangiers overnight before, but never had to go longer than that to get it to smell really good. I've tried about 8 or 9 Tangiers flavors now(no watermelon, though), with only one that I didn't care for.
Click
I was just at Eric of Tangiers lounge on Sat. nite and over pack over pack over pack. Just scoop a shit load on there and use a fork and press it down. Place a sheet of foil over the bowl and your palm over it and spin the bowl around to compress the shisha. Press down with your palm and there should be so much tobacco that you can only press it down about a quarter width.

I have never overpacked liked that before and got great sessions. So are you saying pack it down as much as possible up to the rim?
Click
I'm sure other ways work. But I was shown the "perfect bowl" and how to do it. Eric said you don't want any air passages so the thing is packed tight, hence the phunnel. The heat comes from the bowl itself heating up. \It's the same as MDL's guide. http://hookahforum.wikidot.com/mdl-s-guide
The Messiah
Yeah, definitely over pack it. That's the main thing I learned from Eric. Put tons of shisha. It'll smoke for ever!
Guest DJ_HOSSEIX
click, since you're in so-cal too how long do you let yours acclimate?
Click
Most of the stuff is ready when I get it. If you are ordering from hookahcompany they are in So Cal so from Eric to them and to you doesn't change humidity. A couple flavors I have just left over nite, but majority are ready to smoke when I get them cause it was made in the same humidity.
Dom
QUOTE (NickReppinThe909 @ Sep 29 2008, 04:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>you definetly need more acclimation, if it has more than just a hint of soy sauce smell to it then you definetly need to let it sit out for a while longer+1the humidity can change from one day to the next or from one town to the next - even in socal. it's funny, Eric has (or used to have) this little dry-erase board that had a number on it from 1 to 10 showing how dry or humid it was. 1 (worst) being the most humid and 10 (best) being the most dry. i'd walk in there one day at about 6pm and it was a 4 and by 10pm, it was a 7. that's the difference between a shitty bowl and a pretty good bowl. 4 hours. it's best to acclimate constantly. leave your containers open a little. it won't dry out. that's what Eric does at his store. EternalSoil
yeah he rakes it out on the roof! pretty sweet looking too!ok, yeah that was a joke. but you really do have to put a bunch in there. people think, "ok, i put more than i do with other shishas." or they dont want to "waste" it. I can understand not wanting to waste it but, 1. its pretty damn cheap. 2. It will smoke forever! If you only want to smoke it for like an hour or 2, only put it in half the bowl. it will smoke slightly different but thats what you get! I actually just leave it in there! i smoked 2/3 of a bowl last night and ill smoke the rest tonight. it may be a little different than fresh right out of the tub, but i dont mind. Apets22
Well, I think Im gonna quite this session now. HUGE CLOUDS, no harshness, not a ton of flavor. Im quitting it because im just way two buzzed already. I even regulated my hits once every minute or so, but my head is flying, and I just want to sleep now, and Im feeling like I did my last time with it, I figure its better to quit now because otherwise, my stomach will be upset and Ill start to feel sick.Buttttt, this gives me hope, I may just have to get used to it. mattarios2
like people have said before there are 2 ways of doing it, smoke pure tangiers for like a week straight and that hardcore buzz will go away. Or you can mix it with other shisha and slowly work your way towards just tangiers.
Apets22
I might mix it that sounds good, AF mint with the watermelon? Probably delish. How would you pack it though? Like tangiers, or like AF, or like a hybrid?
EternalSoil
are you smoking on a full stomach? if you smoke on an empty stomach you can get sick if you're not used to it.it can still give me headaches every once in a while cause i never eat lol! Apets22
I ate recently, not right before. I just think that its too much nicotine, I think Im going t fire it up again in a few minutes as its already packed, and I figure why the fuck not. EternalSoil
yeah if you're really getting a huge buzz that lasts that could be your problem. if you keep trying your body will get used to it.
