cemab4y
I was posted to Taji, Iraq from Feb 2008-May 2008. I had some medical problems, and I returned to the USA. I gave all of my hookahs and tobacco, and coals, and supplies away to the Iraqis I worked with. (They were all great guys, and the risked their lives to work with Americans).Last week, I arrived at Forward Operating Base, Salerno, Khost Province, Afghanistan. I live in a canvas tent, and I am restricted to base, because of security. Last night, there was a mortar attack, I had to climb into the concrete bunker for half an hour. There is no way to get hookahs or supplies up here, at this remote base, and I am forbidden from leaving the camp. I will order some items in the APO mail, for my personal use, and maybe donate some to the soldiers here.I have collected lots of soap, tobacco, and beef jerky from generous Americans, and I donate all that is sent to the soldiers here. The stuff was coming in so fast last year, that I could not give it all away fast enough!Afghanistan is an interesting country, to be sure. This is my fourth (4th) time here. I worked at the Kabul Airport back in 2004, then I was on a drug-eradication program in 2004. Then I returned in 2007, to work on a data collection project. Now I am here, working on a video project.
