bikeAholic
Torrents.to is my favorite. Also, Demonoid is pretty awesome when you get a chance to sign up. :] Oh and uTorrent ftw. :]

rigor
As for sites, btjunkie.org is a massive engine that searches all other major torrent sites - nearly a one stop shop. Empornium.us is insanely awesome, but it's private and can be tough to get an invite in - try posting in the forum though, it eventually worked for me uTorrent is great program. Make sure you get your ports forwarded correctly (UPnP or NAT), so you'll have more incoming connections, thus making your downloads much much faster. And Usenet is still superior to torrents for anything you need. Newshosting.com has a nice unlimited package for $15 a month.
gaia.plateau
isoHuntisoHuntisoHuntI have a membership on Demonoid but I don't like the website layout and I'm not always able to upload as much as I download. If isoHunt doesn't have what I want, which is rare, I google "<Desired File> + torrent + download" and I usually end up getting it at mininova or the pirate bay.@ Rivet: there isn't actually a forum ruling forbidding the discussion of illegal activities (in the US; downloading copyrighted files is actually legal in Canada).@ Mush: you may want to add that rule. ecaddiction
Demonoid if you have an invite (I can give you one), and torrentpond.com if not. Torrent pond searches alot of different torrents, including most of the ones mentioned above.

fifthmanstanding
sign up for an igoogle account, make that your home page. Go to the area where you add apps to your homepage. Search 'torrent' and it'll add a torrent meta-search box that searches pirate bay, mininova, demonoid, btjunkie, iso hunt, seedpeer, seedpeer, MoNova, and usenet all at once and you can click between the tabs to review the sites search items.and I use transmission as well.
