SimplexCoda
Dont spend 10 bucks on one. I have had one and i made my own to compare and the one i made was way better and way cheaper to make.
jezter6
all it does is make hookah quiet - and makes you feel like you're not getting a good pull (even though you really are).it's distracting at best. and yes, the diffuser comes with 2 - a big and a small - the small one fits the QT
Stuie
yeah i have one use the smaller one on my mya's and the big one on my MZ and Pharaoh. Only problem I have with them is neither of them will work on my obelisk. small is to small for the downstem and large is to big for the narrowest part of the base. Anxiety
mmm there alright, makes the smoke a bit smoother is a plus, but also makes a really hard pull which kinda annoys me...also i like the sound of a hookah rumble the silencer makes it kinda...weak? idk lol
l0aded
hard pull sounds lame.so it doesnt "filter" the smoke and make it cleaner?
modisess
i tried making my own diffuser with some foil and shaping it around the downstem. I poked a few holes and used a rubber band to make the foil stay in place.. didn't work well though.. but there are a few threads about making a diy diffuser in the how to section. Hojo
QUOTE (l0aded @ Oct 11 2008, 01:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>hard pull sounds lame.so it doesnt "filter" the smoke and make it cleaner? No. It just breaks the airflow so that it makes dozens of small bubbles instead of a few large ones. It supposedly makes the smoke smoother since more smoke is actually touching the water, but it largely depends on who you are asking.Personally, the sound of a hookah bubbling is music to my ears that always brightens my mood, so anything that would take that away from me is a nasty, evil creation. Kapten Kanel
From my experience it makes the smoke a whole lot smoother but it makes my KM go totally silent which is FAIL. Taking a big hit with alot of smoke when the hookah doesnt make a sound is very annoying. Really, the smoke should be smooth without the diffuser to, it just makes heat management more forgiving (i totally burned the bowl, the smoke tasted like burning carpet but it hadnt a tingling feeling or anything to it). Wharbone
I love my homemade diffuser (link in sig). I've used the Heba diffuser on a friends hookah, and mine definitely works better. Plus I can take mine on and off with my KM with no problems.
liquidglass
I don't exactly get where the "it's harder to pull" with the diffuser thing. On my KM with a diffuser it's still just like breathing flavored smoke in and out. I have a feeling that either your diffuser has holes that are too small or too few. It sounds more like it's your foil/packing that's the problem. Could just be me but my diffuser makes my Km nearly silent and seems to make the smoke smoother because of being forgiving for heat management like someone else said. TizaNabi
Its advertised as good for 15 smokes only. Make your own with 2,3 or 4 "bended-elbow" plastic straws stuck in the bottom of the shaft and cut to size, or a balloon with small holes etc.I remember a few years ago some chap took a Bic pen top and drilled tiny holes. cemab4y
The diffuser does NOT make a cleaner smoke. NO way. It does make the hookah quieter. However, I like my diffuser, because the bubbles are smaller, and the smoke is slightly cooler. You can make one yourself, that will work better than the store-bought. Barnaby
While the concept sounds neat, I don't think it's very useful, cept for quieting it down if you need it to, and stopping the coals from rumbling around whe they get small. They are next to impossible to get flavor out of, as it is intended to filter things not just because of the smaller bubbles, but the material itself. It will turn brown because it is absorbing stuff out of the smoke. It clings to flavors like you wouldn't believe. If you used it like it's intended, you need a new one every 10-15 smokes like said earlier. I think it restricts your airflow, and it's smoothness, more flavorful claim is suspect. I think you get more flavor from not having a porous piece of plastic retaining all sorts of crap, that restricts airflow on your hookah. More airflow, means more, dense smoke, means more flavor.. Save 10 bux.... gimmicky at best..
Glassjaw
They produce more flavor. This is simply a claim I make in my own opinion, of course. They also make the pull harder. This is a downfall, but it's not that bad. They also make the hookah quieter. This is irrelevant. If you can't hear music of TV because of the hookah, either get a hearing aid or turn up the volume. Are they necessary? No.Is the price worth simply testing it out? Yes.Do we still use one on the hookah? No. Not sure why, we simply don't.
Scoop
how is the pull harder for you guys. all the diffusers ive ever made, made the pull incredible easy.
Stuie
i am guessing they jam the diffuser all the way on the down stem. It make it harder if you do that. if you put the diffuser on about 1/4-1/2 an inch up the downstem it diffuses the smoke and doesn't effect the pull
