xpimpitox
QUOTE (Bulldog_916 @ Oct 16 2008, 09:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>http://www.wasserpfeifen-planet.de/lshop,s...hishakohle,.htmThis is the brand and type of coal I was talking about. If you find these at a local shop, dont hesitate. They are great coals, just with little quirks you have to work out with time and experience. Good luck. You must be lucky. I went through 3 cases of those since a local shop carried them and every case I had nothing but bad experiences with. They would pop and fly everywhere upon lighting them on time, ash terrible, have a bad taste throughout and overall not last very long. The only plus side to those were the price. I remember payin 4.99 for a case at one point. For Japs ill def stick to canary's.

Are they like 9 dollars more worth it? the easys are like 6-7 bucks and canarys are 15 or so.
Scoop
depends if youve got the money to spend. if you trying to go the best route, id get the golden. if youre not made out of money id get easy light.i like the golden alot more because you can start them off themselves (just lay a square or two on top of one already on your bowl and it will start). requires less work
Bulldog_916
The chinese easy lites are good enough. Yes they ash a little funny, but they dont leave that mineral shit in your shisha and you can find them just about anywhere at 5 bucks a box. To me, there are 3 kinds of coals, 1. cheap shitty coals, those would be Rolland QLs, Dodos, romman lemonwood coals, etc. 2. decent coals such as three kings, al adjad naturals, golden QLs, easy lite japs, Rolland naturals, stargate naturals, and diamante easy lights, and 3rd, premium coals, exoticas, coconaras, banned vendor coconut coals, canary japanese coals, etc. If you can find a good medium between price you're willing to pay and performance you are comfortable with, then there is NO, I repeat, NO reason why you shouldnt buy them. I find that depending on my situation, I can go between the premium coals and the decent coals without regretting it, without a huge hit in my hookah life. Do some of them ash funny? Yea. Do some of them have quirks? YES. Hookah smokers for years didnt have exoticas or coconaras or coconut coals or golden canary coals and it didnt keep them from smoking hookah. They just figured out a way around the problem or dealt with it.
mattarios2
I agree bulldog, just didn't know if the 9 dollars did the justice for the goldens, and when we talk about golden canarys those are these ... http://www.hookahcompany.com/golden_hookah...l_1488_prd1.htm yes?I am almost 100% sure these are them, i'll prob get one box of these and the other cheapos and see how I feel. mattarios2
yeah, I need to make a decision because there is no way I can deal with cracking the HC coco coals in half just to have them last for like 20 min. It sucks cuz the coal not cracked lasts long enough but a half of one lasts for like 20 min. Because they give off so much damn heat I can't use whole ones. 2 Whole coals is too much and and one is not enough. Maybe tonight I'll try leaving one whole and then cracking another in half and using 1.5 that way rather than 3 .5 's. Hmmm maybe I'm onto something. Scoop
weird. my friend would use 3 of the hc (not the nht brand) coco coals. and it always cool
mattarios2
with tangiers? I used 3 and it got incredibly hot, tickle in the throat, then I tried the 3 halfs that bulldog told me to do and got good size clouds with great flavor and no tickle. Maybe I'll try it again. With the goldens how many coals do you need for tangiers and fantasia? Thanks Scoop
Scoop
it really depends on your phunnel size too i suppose.on my old small phunnel i use 3 coals, however its noticeably bigger than my new small. on the medium one i use 3 to 4 coals, depends on how its smoking
mattarios2
Isn't it weird though that even 2 coals was 2 much? there isn't THAT much of a diff. Well eh I guess there is my red phunnel is quite bigger than my blue one.
indian_villager
I had a recent issue as well. So I reacclimated it for two days and it was fine! Edited October 18, 2008 by indian_villager
mattarios2
acclimation is def not the issue for me, my blueberry and k-peach smell wonderful, damn HC coals I swear are too hot.
Bulldog_916
I agree. No coal is perfect. Pick up the Chinese Easy Lites. These guys here.http://hookahcompany.com/easy_lite_hookah_coal_1723_prd1.htmJD uses them constantly and swears by them. I used them and they were pretty damn good for the price. You could also try these: http://hookahcompany.com/japanese_style_si...s_3190_prd1.htmI'm sure HC wouldnt intentionally mislead anyone as to the effectiveness of coals they carry. mattarios2
yeah imma order the easy lites and see how they go, just wish I needed other stuff b/c the coals are like 6-7 bucks and shipping is like 7 bucks so shipping sucks in this scenario. Bulldog_916
You dont have any shops around you? Massachusetts is a wide open area to look for shops that might sell coals. Boston especially. Most shops carry the easy lites. All the ones I've been to carry quicklights and these.http://boston.citysearch.com/yellowpages/d.../257/page1.htmlThose are all the smoke shops in Boston. Make some phone calls . Voski
You don't need to crack the CH coals in half. You can stand them up on their edges so they aren't getting as much surface area contact.

I never thought of that.I just started using Tangiers a couple of days ago, and the beginnings of my sessions have had some extreme throat tickling. Granted, it may be a packing issue and I just don't have it down yet, but I will definitely be giving this a try. Thank you.
