skatesteak Posted October 14, 2008 Share Posted October 14, 2008 ive had this problem even with a hole in the middle. i guess you just gota keep track of the foil staying tight on the surface when poking holes and i think its better to rip off a large square of foil so that it coveres much of the rest of the bowl below the rim and holds down better where a smaller foil square will be only a little bit around the bowl and will be prone to shifting and loosing surface tension on the top. and it IS a good idea to poke holes around the middle. that way you wont be just getting regular air however if you want an easier pull and slightly less dense smoke i find that the hole in the middle provides that. Do your tongs have a metal poker attached to them? If not this method wont work.2. Make a hole in the center of the foil so it is in the center of the phunnel opening.3. Put the tip of the metal poker of your tongs threw the hole in the center.4. Then let the tongs rest off the side of your bowl. I defiantly think your middle part was made to sit to high. looking at my bowl there is a big difference in the outer wall heights vs the middle section height. once i have the tobacco packed and the foil pulled tight i could drag as hard as my hearts desire and it would be impossible for the foil to get sucked down enough to restrict air flow a noticable amount. Do you have a real tangiers phunnel or is it a chinese knock-off? I dont remember if you said in the first few posts. i know the chinese phunnels seem to have a problem with the middle part not having a consistant height between different bowls.
