Father Spoke To A Doctor In Beirut

Recommended Posts

My dad is in Beirut right now and he spoke to one of his relatives husbands and he is a doctor and "supposidly" has done extensive tests on Hookah and he told my dad to make a long story short, hookah is worse because of the long inhale and because when they fuse the shisha together with the flavoring, they use a burning process that requires many chemicals in the process and makes the shisha incredibly unhealthy. Sorta sounds like bull shit to me, does anyone know anything about this burning process and what/how many chemicals are involved if at all?

Would be nice if Eric chimed in right about now, or anyone who makes shisha/knows about the process for that matter.

Thanks

Unlikely. He (as most dont) did not address the heat factor and it not allowing certain byproducts of tobacco to catalyze. Also, the only thing is glycerin and flavoring, and I highly doubt that this is really bad for you.

Hmm, interesting information. Well, I haven't heard of any doctor that thinks smoking anything is healthy. I agree with you though Mattarios, Eric or one of his reps/employees could shine some light on the subject. I want to say someone posted an article involving research of hookah vs cigarette in terms of chemicals, and whether which one was healthier than the other.... it'd be nice to see that article again. Im gonna take that into consideration but I don't think I'll change my habits. In general, I think all of us on this forum are biased towards thinking hookah is healthier than smoking cigarettes but smoking is smoking and it's a personal choice.

Maybe other companies use some magical, fusing, burning machine but we don't at Tangiers.

I wouldn't take the word of anyone, not even a doctor, without seeing proof of what they are supposedly preaching.
There is no doubt in my mind that inhaling smoke is not a healthy lifestyle choice and arbitrarily proposing claims and not showing statistical evidence to back them up isn't going to scare me away from smoking hookah.

im pretty sure the water cleans out the tar which is the main poison in the smoke, and only the nicotine remains,

Hahaha, good one... any smoke has a shitton of chemicals (natural or otherwise) in it. A lot of these just plain aren't healthy to inhale. The water doesn't get all the tar out either. Also, if only the nicotine remained, there would not be smoke... what do you think smoke is? Some sort of magical substance that you see without anything actually being there?

Noone seems to be sure about the health effects of breathing in vapor from glycerine either.

None of this matters much to me, as I'll keep on smoking hookah regardless.

Would a conclusive study really affect your decision anyway?

Hookah smoking is by far the single most stable aspect of my life. No matter what's going on, regardless of severity, there's going to be, at the very least, an hour of bowl smoking at the end of the week. And it's not even about the smoke or the flavor (sure, they're gravy), but it's about the contemplation, the conversations, the camaraderie...and of course the serenity.

Quitting hookah for us would be like Steve Irwin quitting wildlife activism - sure, it killed him, but he died the happiest man alive.

Long live hookah!

i don't know really, my brother used to smoke cigs and he would wake up coughing /w horrid plehmg. when he started smoking hookah /w me he loved it and quit cigs and went to hookah, now when he wakes up he feels fine. I'm not saying hookah is good for you, because obviously no smoke inhalent can be good but people always say "one hookah sessions = 2 packs of cigs" i find that to be such bs b/c hookah smokers really don't feel the effects that cig smokers get. idk im no doctor but just my insight.
