Just wanna say I tried exotica's for the first time today, I must of got a good batch cause despite all the bad reviews I read they worked beautifully...

did you ever try cocos?
I have tried the Exotica Japanese coals. I really hate them. I am just going to pay the extra money and go with Coconaras. I may or may not try hookah companys coconut coals.

I like exoticas. I just have to be really careful with them so they don't break.

HC coco's are the same as coconara's.

Fumari Japs are awesome if you want japanese coals.

I bought a small box of coco's from a head shop after all the rave reviews on here and i found them to be terribad. they took forever to light and not to mention they left a nasty aftertaste and barely gave enough heat to have a decent session. exoticas are the only coals ill be using.

The HC coconut coals are awesome. Just as good as Coco Naras, but not hugely overpriced.

Exoticas break to easily for me. And the last two boxes I had were causing a throat tickle. When I used different coals it went away.

They break when lighting for me never when ashing. Ill throw on two 1/3rds and they will crack in half on the stove for no reason.

They have never ever broke for me upon lighting them. Once in a while they break when ashing but its not a huge deal as its usually a clean break and i have more heat spread across the bowl.

I personally loved exoticas until I tried some cocos. The exoitcas have a bad smell when lighting that I don't smell at all with cocos. I don't hate exoticas by any means but I could trade mine for cocoas I def would. Unfortunately however, I just bought about 4 boxes of exoticas over the summer to stock up and that will prob last me a year so thats prob not gonna happen...oh well

Ya they are good coals..depending on the stick you happen to be lighting.

I would get coco nara's and try them but with exotica's at my local hookah shop at $5 a box ill be smoking with these...plus id have to get coco nara's shipped to me anyway!

I have been using exoticas for about a year now and they seem to work fine. I have tried cocos a couple times and i do like them better and will most likely be making a switch once i run out of exoticas. The exoticas do give off a kinda strond smell when first put on the burner and they do sometimes break if i ash them a little to rough. Over all though i have liked them but am ready for a change just to see what else is out there. on the plus side i dont ever get harsh smoke from the exoticas themselves (only if i throw to much heat on for the tobacco being smoked) and once they are light they give good heat and no flavor to the smoke.

I used to like Exoticas, but lately they keep splitting on me when lighting and ashing. Anymore I use either of the HC coconut coals.

Heh luckily for me, I was able to get a free box of Exotica Japanese coals (I got them out of luck at a "whoever PMs first gets a free box" kind of thing at Jake's website.

At first, I didn't like the because there was an after taste. I then realized its because I didn't let them sit for a lil to get some of the silver layer that I may have missed.

Distributes a good amount of heat. It perfect for hookah hookah and the favor lasts longer for me.

I personally like Cocos as a natural hookah and Exotica Silver lights are my fav Japanese charcoals to date

I have also used the exotica japs but i like them less than regular exoticas. they take just about the same amount of time to light, Ash fast, and dont last as long as regular exoticas because they are so much smaller. Exoticas ain't too bad..only if they came in cubes like Cocos..that would be very interesting.

It's not that exoticas are bad, it's that they're overpriced, and there is much better.

I dont think coconaras necessarily constitute "much better." They are good coals dont get me wrong, but I dont see how this brand warfare helps anything. I've used a lot of different coals and dont really discriminate too much between them. I've used Diamante Easy Lite Japs, Easylites, Exoticas, Coconaras, HC Cocos, Three Kings, Goldens, Rolland Naturals, I could go on. The top three on my list have been Diamante Easy Lites because they put out JUST enough heat for Tangiers making for an incredible smoke, Exoticas because you get zero taste and can customize them to any size you want, and the HC Cocos because they light relatively quickly in comparison to Coconaras, give out quite a bit of heat, no taste, and no SANDY MINERAL SHIT in my shisha.

Well soon I should be ordering 3 boxes of exoticas and a box of hc cocos. Should last me a while I like that I'll be able to customize the size of my coals for different bowls/tobaccos and I'm excited to try the cocos. I'll never drop THAT much money for cocos guys i dont care how good they are.
