mattarios2
Was thinking about trying it out for tonights session but I am nervous it will go bad. I just can't stand a shitload of ash going in the bowl and making it taste burnt, never had this issue but lately I do and it is pissing me off. I usually do the really really big holes and shit ton of them all over the place. Has anyone done small holes with OG tangiers? If memory serves me right im pretty sure Mush doesn't use the massive holes. If anyone does use small holes do you do a ton of them? or some? Any specific pattern? A pic would be awesome, but good detail will do, Thanks guys.
xpimpitox
Ive done toothpick sized holes where its slightly larger than the tip of the toothpick and not pushed in all the way where its the girth of the whole toothpick...does that make sense? Anyways i did a ton of em that way and it worked out pretty well but Id have to say larger holes seems to give me better sessions. Ill try smaller holes tonight as well since I have had that same problem you had with last nites session but the bowl itself was nowhere being close to burnt. mattarios2
hmmm, just sucks, because even if I am careful with the coals, ash still ends up getting in there and lately has just sucked and ruined the bowls, never had this problem before but now that I use halfs of HC coconut coals instead of full coals I think the way the half coal leans is causing more ash to get in the bowl than with full coals.I think I am too afraid to try it, especially when I am having 4-5 people over, unless someone tells me they have had a great session without making huge holes I don't think I will risk trying it. newjacksm
Just do it, I have done it before and it works but you do notice a tad difference with the bigger holes. Then again it just might be in our heads.
Codename067
Never in my life have I used holes any bigger than your average tooth pick.
*Veritas*
I have never had any luck while using small holes with tangiers. What i do is pack the bowl, foil it then break the two middle prongs off a plastic fork and then push all the way down to the bottom of the bowl a bunch of times. Seems to work great for me. mattarios2
ok maybe the toothpicks you guys speak of are thinner than the ones I use, because the ones I use, if you push all the way down to the bottom of the bowl, the holes end up being huge, must be thicker "heavy duty" toothpicks I have. Click
This is what I just did. That pushing the toothpick all the way through.
indian_villager
Quick question... This is going to sound a little sped. When you folks do the whole push the tooth pick all the way down thing this is supposed to cause the tangiers to stick to the top of the foil yes? Bulldog_916
No, its supposed to allow good ventilation for more flavor to come out. I like making roughly 1/8" diameter holes with a skewer. The burned type flavor goes away. But I'm gonna switch back to diamante easy lites pretty soon, or the jap easy lites. Friggin cheap and I can find em right around here. mushrat
I use just the tip of the tooth pick and just 2 sets of holes around the edges and a bunch over the center hole and i have no problems at all.
Stuie
I have great sessions with Tangiers... I do small holes with tips of a toothpick 1 row around the outside edge, 1 row around the hole, and 2 in between. None over the hole. 2 Cocos then add the third when i flip the first time at 30 minutes...that's when massive clouds kick in.
NarghileNights
http://www.hookahforum.com/?showtopic=23360that is how Eric showed me how to do it.. you can even use a thumbnail - that's what I usually use.just holes allllll over.. you will always have ash go through. smokeytheclown
I use tons of large pinholes around the central core of the phunnel, with one skewer hole in the middle. Never had a problem.

ryno
You could always try small holes around the edge, and bigger holes in the middle to allow airflow, and have the coals over the small holes.
