thehelios
When I began with hookahs, I used to always move my coals around in an attempt to "evenly" burn the shisha but now use a little less shisha in the bowl and leave the coal in place and it works fine. I don't get a burned flavor at all toward the end of sessions and works nicely. What are yalls techniques or input on this?
joelhookah
Man I try to rotate my shit but usually towards the end of the bowl I forget. I still get great even burns, I dont think it is that important to be honest. Might help a little but I think its a negligible difference.
Lysolz
I rarely, if ever, move or ash the coals. I use less shisha though, so that probably helps too.
joelhookah
another thing, i leave a pretty good gap between the foil and the shisha so that may have something to do with it as well.
*Veritas*
I just move my coals when ever I ash them. sometimes i find that it helps to mellow out some harshness if Im having issues with it.
MNH
I usually rotate them in the beginning but tend to leave them after a while..
racemyghost
I leave no gap between foil and shisha.I ash the coals half way through and put them back on the same spot. When i make second round of coals, i put them on the area that didnt have coals before. And if i move on to a 3rd set of coals, i put them back on to where the 1st set of coals were
modisess
i flip my coal whenever my smoke volume starts to decrease. other than when the tobacco starts to burn, i don't really bother with the coals.

srawas89
If you are worried about ash ending up in the bowl use a needle to poke your holes and poke like a madman. As far as rotating coals it is not needed unless you feel like you are burning your shisha or you have lost a significant amount of flavor. racemyghost
The more you play with the coals, the higher chance you have of getting ash in the bowl. When you grab the coals to ash them, make sure you have a firm grip on the coals before moving them thus giving you less chances of coal/ash formation breaking apart on top of your bowl rather then your coal tray
Click
I usually just rotate the coals the first 5 minutes when I'm playing around with the heat to get the bowl started cause the people I smoke with are too impatient to let the coals heat up the shisha for a few minutes. wpw36
i try to move em around but when i am watching a movie while smoking i usually forget so they go for a while and then when i remember i ash em and flip em
indian_villager
Really depends on the set up. When I'm using a phunnel+mod with japs/hc cocos. I just poke holes under the coals and ash every once in a while. If I'm just using my phunnel + belgian naturals I rotate every time I ash!
