rigor
Sorry that shot is blurry, it was the best I could get my camera to do even with macro on and some flash. So, I can't even remember now when I got my Mya Vortex about 2-3 months ago, what the inside of the upper portion of the stem looked like. IIRC, I remember thinking it was kind of weird that the inside of the upper stem (outlined in red in the pic) didn't have a nice smooth stainless steel look to it, like the lower part of the stem did. I don't have access to another Mya right now, and would really appreciate if some folks could chime in and let me know how theirs is. It doesn't really look like rust to me, possibly more like a spray that was put on the inside at the factory, or something of that nature. At the end of each night, I always clean the base, and BOTH stem parts out with hot water and a brush real quick. Should I not have been putting water through the upper stem during cleaning !?Thanks everyoneP.S.The reason I was even investigating the inside of the stem is because this past week, I've seen a minor decrease in flavor and cloud thickness. Investigated hoses by sucking through them with nothing attached - no issues (I clean my Razan about once a week), and smelled all other hookah components. Everything was fine, which didn't surprise me since I keep it very clean anyway. The only thing that I can think of recently that I had never done before, was cleaning everything out with some dish soap, as I ran out of lemon juice. I scrubbed everything well, including my small Tangiers phunnel, and then of course ran tons of hot water through everything afterwards to make certain I rinsed away any possibility of dish soap residue. Thanks again! Stuie
scrub more and use some dawn dish soap. I fear using lemon juice on my hookahs as the acidity may cause damage. Maybe that's what caused it. Just use diligence to clean it more ofter with soap.
newjacksm
I am pretty sure running water through the stem is OK for the most part. I would try and just get some really good soap and scrub scrub scrub.

steeeeeeve
My QT is an odd colour and rough texture there also i would describe it as a darker sand looking texture and colourif that sounds about right then its just the design as mine is exactly the samewashing hookahs with water shouldnt cause major rusting on good quality hookahs maybe a tiny spot but not that much so i doubt its anything to worry aboutas for the flavor decrease, which bowl do you use? if you use a semi glazed or unglazed egyptian they may pickup some ghost flavors at least a few of mine managed to, if its fully glazed then it wont be the problem. Normally i would say hose but you have tested that already, maybe its just a bad batch of flavor or coals, or maybe its in your head a little bit because you are worrying about the "rust" looking part i know i imagine some weird shit in similar situationsSteve
joelhookah
My mini acrylic was that color brand new, no worries bro.
Hippo_Master
That's just what Myas look like. It's brass on the inside, chrome or nickel plated on the outside. This is what makes the damn thing a BITCH to clean
EternalSoil
its brass and its not rust. But it is rather porous as you can see. Which is why i will hold flavors like crazy! i switched to another hookah from my MYA.
rigor
Thanks to all that replied. I was pretty certain that's the way the Mya was when I got it, just wanted to double check. I think I'll pick up a new phunnel, because the one I have is only semi-glazed, and while I clean all my hookah parts each night, I generally leave the shisha in the phunnel overnight, and clean it out the next day after. Sounds like that could potentially cause some flavor ghosting in it.
mattathayde
myas are cast brass and then chrome plated, thats normals. brass wont really corrode out like steel would (it will still corrode just different)the dishsoap degreases so if there was some oil/grease of some kind on it covering it you now cleaned it off which lets the brass start to oxidize but it shouldnt change anything that much.give it a good scrub and it should be fine-matt
