O Oh. Need Help..

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I talked with a few people in chat about my problem. So whenever I smoked I get this tingly sensation on the back of my throat with my QT, Medium and Razan. The smoke is not harsh but it was tingly to the point of discomfort. I use 3 cocos on my bowl.
I tried smoking with the AF and also the Fantasia I got, but with both session I got this same problem. So I did a little investigation, when I removed my bowl, ashes were building up on top of the bowl grommet of the QT, and when I pulled my hose from the hose port, the tip of the hose was actually covered in thin layer of ash. So I think this might be the problem, everytime I take a pull, I also inhale some ash. But the thing is, how? This baffles me. I've tired using more water in the base but that didn't help.

I seriously need your guidance here. I am freaked the hell out that I've been inhaling ash all this time. Please help!

I am gonna take apart the QT and see as to what might cause this problem. I'll keep you guys posted.

how does it look? it sounds to me like it could be rust, i had the same problem and made the same mistake a few months ago.

what hose are you using? any ash would have to go through water to get into the hose which is pretty impossible im afraid my friend

Pictures may help?

I don't think it's rust. QT is brand new! (i made a thread about it). No pics sorry. Okay, so I unscrewed the downstem and found a layer of ash formed on top of the thread. I think this is where is could travel. Since the ashes are so fine, If I don't properly screw the downstem could that lead to a small leak for them to travel through? Since it is super close to the hose port. I am using a Razan. But thing is, when I checked, the QT was pretty much air tight.

Is there anything I could adjust when using with a phunnel bowl? Edited by modisess

maybe too much water? if its getting in the water that's ok, but its splashing it up high enough to get to the tip of the hose?

maybe put holes farther from middle hole on phunnel.

I realized that the water level on the QT needs a pretty low water level to stop the water from splashing high enough to reach the hose ports. I also tried poking holes only on the outer edge of the bowl. I'll post a pic of how I set up my phunnel bowl.

This happens to me, but ash doesnt get in the water. I would be able to tell because usually there is fine sand that comes in coconut coals, and none of that is present in the water. How about for you?

I haven't paid much attention to the water.. I'm gonna try smoke again tonight and see how it goes. Pics will probably be there.

You know what, I think I've figured it out. I am smoking right now and I don't get that tingly sensation anymore. 3 cocos are alright, they don't burn the tobacco, really. I think that the holes I made on the phunnel were too big, so ash gets sucked down to the stem. Now I've poked MUCH smaller holes and it seems to fix the problem. Thanks a bunch for the replies. I've also lowered the water level in the base.

the ash you are talking about is normal... just clean more often or dab it between bowls with a wet paper towel. Cocos it's better to use small holes the ash is fine.

Wait, you are getting ash, as in from the coals on top of your bowl?

If that's the case, then that is IMPOSSIBLE. The ash gets annihilated by the time it hits the water.

The only thought that might make any sense is that you might not have enough water..add more water and make sure that when you are taking drags, the water level is not going below the stem.

Try using less coals and try making smaller wholes and clean your charcoal constantly, that happens to me also but it usually goes to the base instead of through the hole.

How many times have you smoked outta it? I find with my hookah that the smoke can somehow condense in the hose, and if I dont blow the heck outta it before I smoke I suck back a bunch of crap. If I clear out the (remove a plug and blow) hose and the base when Im done smoking I dont have this problem the next time.

It seems pretty much impossible for ash to get into your hose. Usually particulate matter gets in a hose from water getting into it and rotting it. Otherwise there's probably filings or sand stuck in your stem. sad.gif Edited by Sahara Smoke Co

I'm almost 1000% positive that it's not ash, I would say it's "smoke residue"

You get this if you don't blow your hoses out after a session or before using them. It's the smoke leftovers that sit in the hose overnight or whatever and cause this "ash"

try blowing them out before and after each use (off of the hookah)

agreed 100%
either A. too much water, gettin in hose and rust, or B. stem is above water lever so ash can travel(I think its unlikely)

with my old mitsuba, I had the rust issue, it was a dark purple vase that appeared black, you could not see the water level. The trick to get it right and not ruin anymore hoses is to...add water, inhale through port, no hose attached...if you get any moisture, your level is too high...take it from there

"North Carolina, Take your shirt off, Whirl it 'round your head like a helicopter!" tongue.gif

thats what I did with the junk mitsuba hoses, only helps temporarily...wouldnt recommend it with anything fancy

yeah, i could see the mouthtip going off and causing serious hurt. thanks for the replies guys, actually i do blow out the hose after every session, don't want to rinse water through the hose after every session though as i've found out that it takes a REALLY long time for it to dry out.
