noca$h
So I have a KM Ultimate hose, beautiful thing it is. The problem is that it doesnt fit in my MZ Safari unless I take out the hose grommet, but if I do that then the hose doesnt want to pull as good.Question. If I wanted to sand down the wood end of the hose to get it to fit flush in my MZ what kinda grit sandpaper would I use? Or if there is any other idea someone can come up with to get it to fit without altering the hose drastically that would be killer as well. Giant Ninja Robot
I have no experience with your problem but I would think having been a proffesional painter who sanded my share of wood (hahaha.....) that you should use a finer grit sandpaper such as 120. Keeps it cleaner and you can get a more precise job done. My .
MrMoodz
The only problem with sanding the wood down is that if you do get a KM hookah, your KM Ultimate Hose would be too small for it at the hose port. But if you are really wanting to get that thing to work with your MZ, then sanding would be the way to go.
AKammenzind
Agree with GNR, fine grit is the way to go... it'll take that extra two minutes but it'll work much better. It will be smoother for a better seal, plus there's less chance that it'll rip up the wood at the end (which I would worry about a lot with coarser grits sandpaper). Sometimes if you're using rough sandpaper (esp. on soft woods, which the hose end may or may not be) your wood'll end up looking almost like it's severely rotted with bits of flesh hanging off it. ryno
Def use a fine grit sandpaper. You could always use wet papertowels as a grommet, those can be smaller and still seal fine
NJE03
One of my KM hoses are the same way, I cannot use it with a grommet on my tri metal, I just plug the wood end directly in the port with no grommet. Pulls fine for me.
Scoop
id sand it down until you could use the grommet. nearly guaranteed seal.
chinamon
start with an 80 grit cuz it is rough and can remove lots of wood at a time.then work your way up to a 120 grit....then use some 300 and wet sand it for a nice smooth finish... Codename067
Just use some paper towel or napkin instead of the hose grommet...hose and bowl grommets SUCK, I have not used one in over 3 years.Get the napkin a little wet and wrap a thin layer around the end of the hose and plug it in.The only grommet that I use is the one that connects the stem to the base, and thats it. Scoop
grommets dont suck if you have the proper ones lol. thats the real problem. you really need to go through a bunch to find the one that fits very well and most companies could care less and just ship it out with whatever grommets it has. Just because I couldn't find the right one?Too many. Using paper towel is a much more ideal solution..paper towel/napkin is almost unlimited in your house and you can use a new piece every time you run out..you can even use newspaper as a grommet..just make sure its always slightly wet so you can get a nice seal. SmokinMoose
Try putting the wood part in the reverse way. like this:

noca$h
Well, I decided not to sand down the end of the hose because im lazy and im probably going to get a Pharonie with my first paycheck, so I just used some Teflon today and it smoked -perfectly-Thanks for the input though guys!
