christopherj
Hey,So I got my packaged today from hookahcompany... 2 KM Ultimate hoses (Green and Red) and a Black Phunnel Bowl. I couldnt wait to get it started, I watched videos online and read posts on this forum regarding the setup, but I just kept running into probelms with the Phunnel. It was really hard to get any pull from it what so ever. I tried holes around except the middle, holes around and one in the center... nothing. Its as if no matter what happens the foil wants to suck down the center. I tightened the foil as much as possible and still nothing. I also tried one peice of foil and two peices. I am using heavy duty foil as well. Not really sure what to do next for the phunnel. Should I sand down the middle hole to create less of a vaccume affect or will that make it worse? Or should I change to normal foil?
modisess
how big or small are the holes you're making? I never seem get any problems with the foil getting sucked down. Is your's tangiers or the chinese made phunnel?
Stuie
Bigger piece of foil and wrap it down the phunnel more to make the foil tighter.
george11
I had this problem recently also.. but I think I got the hang of it...create 2 rings of wholes towards the edges of the bowl, none in the middle, use 3 coals, heat them up really well and let them sit on the bowl for about 4, 5 mins before using. rigor
There is a link in my signature that may be of some help as well. Keep at it, once you get it down, it's fantastic!
Voski
Your phunnel is defective. You have to sand down the hole. Or you can poke a hole in the center and use something to prop up the foil.
hookah hippie
you can also put a toothpick or stem from the tobacco over the hole to stop the foil from being pulled down
noca$h
Make sure to hold your foil down tight when your poking your holes as well. It could sag during that process.
christopherj
thanks guys, I followed the how to and used half of a toothpick, everything smoked great, one of my best hookah sessions.
mattathayde
rarely a defective one slips out, my friends have one and they just use a little piece of metal to keep the foil off the hole-matt
Wharbone
Was this a Tangier's Phunnel or Chinese Phunnel? The Chinese tend to have the inner phunnel stem too high, so the foil blocks airflow.

MechAnt
The greatest fix I know of for foil being sucked down is packing more tobacco! When it begins to get sucked down, the tobacco will prop it up before it comes anywhere near to being sucked down. MOAR!!!

MOAR!!!For tangiers this definitely holds true, not sure about other tobacco's in the phunnel. How should one pack Al Waha in a phunnel? When I pack tangiers, I end up with lots of actual direct contact with the shisha and foil, but it's the best flavor ever!-Z

christopherj
hmm ok well i guess i could sand the middle down a bit, its a slight slant, i think a few wipes with sand paper would level it pretty easily, but i really dont want to break out the sand paper. momatik
I saw a post someone made earlier showing his chinese phunnel bowl and how the middle thing was too high.He used a dremel to bring it down, and he said it worked perfectly after that. If you have a dremel, use it.If not, find a friend who has one. It'll be a much cleaner job if you do, and much less difficult than to sand it down by hand. pullingteeth
take a picture of the bottom of the phunnel so someone can check if it's actually a tangier's phunnel. because most of the chinese ones have the middle part too high...so that could've been your problem. getting the chinese knockoff...whether it were on purpose or a mistake on HC's part
