Recommended Posts

I went to a hookah lounge not to long ago with a friend of mine and the day after that i went out and bought myself a ten inch hookah its probably not that great but it works the main reason i'm here is to increase my knowledge of i guess you would say the are of hookahing :] i love it, it's pretty interesting, ive been doing alot of reading on this forum, learned alot which makes me even more curious about everything like these hookahs that everyone seems to love the KM or something like that whats the actual names of these, i havent really gotten the hang of packing my phunnel yet but eventually i will, i look at your alls pictures of the clouds and compared to my clouds they're clouds in the sky compared to a smokers hit. I have Dreams water mellon for the shisha and as far as the hookah goes all i can tell you is it's a ten inch i have a screen i don't use tin is that a major issue when it comes to smoke and flavor? how do i even tell what kind of hookah i have lol i just bought it from a shop they didnt give me a box or anything. the coals are golden coals but im looking to buy a whole new set up here soon was wondering what you all would recomend maybe links to the hookah where i could buy it at would be nice and another question i have is i've been really interested in making my own shisha instead of going out and buying it just cause it would make things funner give me more control of flavoring all that fun stuff but i can't really find much info on it and i was wondering if anyone here makes there own that could help a fellow out with the amounts of vegetable glycerin they use, honey or mallasus, what types of herbs things to help me get start and sorry for all the noobish questions

Foil tends to produce bigger clouds, because the holes are smaller than in most screens. It's ultimately your choice, but once I started foil I noticed a huge difference. Also, different shishas produce different levels of smoke. Al Fakher tends to produce huge plumes with very good flavor, so definitely look into that.

KMs are out of stock in most places, but the rumor mill says that more will be hitting our shores soon. You'll probably be able to tell by the huge fanfare on the board.

Definitely look into some natural coals (coconaras, etc.). They impart zero flavor, last longer, produce less ash, and they don't give me a headache like Quick Lights do.

I'm not too sure about shisha making. Someone else can hopefully fill you in on that.

to get good flavor, you need good quality shisha (tobacco) and heat. order some al fakher or some other premium brands which have good flavor, and order some natural coals (meaning no sparkling gunpowder, you must heat up with kitchen stove) which have no flavor to them at all.

after that, the key is to use good amount of heat to extract the flavor out of the shisha tobacco, without burning it.

KM stands for khalil mamoon which is a brand of shisha pipes.

OK. Punctuation is your friend. That aside, here is the jest on hookahs:

Hookahs: There are a few good companies that make hookahs. Some that come to mind for me are: Khalil Mamoon, Magdy Zidan, Mya, and Syrian Nour.

Foil or Screen? Foil. Some people like screens, but I find that for a beginner foil is going to be your best bet. Super easy to use, hard to mess it up.

Packing a phunnel: Dont overpack it. Drop the shisha in and you might need to lightly tap or press it down just to even it out a bit, but mainly drop the shisha in the bowl.

Making shisha: Good luck man. I have a feeling it wont be cheap or easy. Not to discourage you man, go for it because I am sure its a fun process.

Clouds: bowl setup is the biggest factor. Next thing is get a good hose and hookah. Your 10" is probably a no name hookah, they are cheap you wont find a name. If you want to stay cheap go for a Mya Mini Acrylic, Mya Bambino, or a Mya QT. If you have the money to spend, check out the Khalil Mamoons on www.gothookahs.com

As far as coals go, get some coconaras and then use that as a standard to judge other coals by. They are the best I have tried so far.

Happy Smoking!

ugh use paragraphs please...

anyway, you can check out the vendor area, and read up on the reviews. I recommend mnhookah.com, they have good choices in hookah tobacco, and better prices compared to the other sites i've seen.

Most reccomend brand of hookahs here are Khalil Mamoon(KM), Magdy Zidan(MZ) and Mya Saray.

If you're thinking about getting into hookah much more, then I suggest that you get some natural coals, Exoticas, Coconaras or even those Natural Bulk/Lump charcoal.

And you should also try different brands of tobaccos, most people here like Al Fakher(AF), Tangiers(not for beginners though), Nakhla and some of the more premium tobacco like Fantasia.

Experimentation is the name of the game.

Go out and get yourself some Al Fakher Peach, Mint, Watermelon. Those are some of their top flavors, and Al Fakher isn't as pricey as say Starbuzz or Fusion (which are great shisha), so it won't be as bad if you screw up a few bowls of AF while you're learning to pack bowls and manage your heat better.

Also, for a quality but inexpensive hookah, look no further than the small Mya's, like the QT, Mini, or new Econo Gelato. Those will all smoke far superior to any cheap knock off hookah.

I'd suggest a MYA Bambino for a really good cheap hookah. The QT is about the same but not as pretty, and the new Gelato is narrower and will be easy to tip over.

For shisha either AF or Nakhla would be best to start off with. Nakhla is easier to manage heat with and (at least here) a good bit cheaper. It also gives a much stronger buzz and good flavor.

Also, go with foil if you want the bigger clouds.

Since no one has answered your question to making your own shisha, ill tell you how i do it. first you need traditional tobacco, the stuff in the link is close enough to it. If you live in southern cali i can tell you some good places to buy it where its not compressed into bricks.

Anyhow, take about a quarter to half of that brick, and soak it, then after about 5-10 minutes start separating it when you get it all separated squeeze all the water out. the leaves will be very big for the most part so chop them up pretty fine. add about 1-2 table spoons of jam to your finely chopped leaves. now for the sticky.you can use molasses or honey, honey is probably better. add honey 1 table spoon at a time until its the same consistency as the shisha you already bought. pretty juicy but not dripping everywhere. probably a couple tablespoons at most.

i would say smoke more often though. like every day. get more into the culture before you start experimenting.

I make this stuff every so often. its not bad. i dont recommend substituting it for regular shisha like star buzz al fakher layalina etc etc.

I first learned all my stuff from a server at the local hookah bar. He showed me their technique for filling a bowl, and was super friendly about it too.
