coplinb
So as stated, I am currently using 3 cocos on my small phunnel, but it seems that no matter how long i leave them on the burner, they just dont get the shisha hot enough to start hitting good. What I am doing to help is to throw on a QL for a while with two of the naturals just get get the temp of the bowl up, then removing the QL and replacing with the coco. I am going through way to many coals just to get 1 bowl going. What can I do to curb this? Thank you in advance gentlemen!

Zinite
Are you packing the bowl all the way?

rigor
Providing your packing method and how much you are packing will also help. I let my coco's light on my single electric burner for about 5-6 minutes on one side, then they usually only need about another minute or so once flipped. Also, once you put the coals on the bowl, you need to flip them over after about the first 5 minutes. The underside will be very black, but once you flip them you can just treat them like other coals, only ashing when needed.
george11
I have a medium phunnel bowl, and I heat 3 coco's for about 5 mins total (rotating sides every so often), and that gives me plenty of heat.
modisess
3 cocos on a medium always works for me, but whenever i light the cocs i just keep them on the stove only on one side, i get them hot all around by putting them directly in front of a running fan. neffertiti
usually I only use 2 on a small phunnel, 3 burns the hell outta anything. are you sure that the coals are lit? back when I first started using the Coco's i didn't flip them and the would go out after about 10 minutes cause only one side was going and the other was still black. FactorE
I add 4 cocos to get me started.
rigor
QUOTE (FactorE @ Nov 11 2008, 11:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>I add 4 cocos to get me started.I think most others would agree with me, that's just too much heat for a small phunnel, under any circumstance. 3 at max. Sometimes 2 is good enough. You can easily get a small phunnel going with just a few draws on 3 cocos.
Hippo_Master
Is your phunnel, by any chance, a rip-off chinese one?
Sahara Smoke Co
Windcover for sure if one will fit.It helps a great deal with heat trapping.

It's been officially declared by Eric @ Tangiers recently that the Chinese phunnels require more heat. Also, try checking out the link in my signature. It may help. In my experience, too small of holes can be a bad thing, as well as too many.
Raziel510
I had the same problem you did. I would put 2 cocos (later I tried 3) on my small phunnel and it just wouldn't provide enough heat. In my experience there are two things you can do.1. Use a windcover with 2 cocos and that should give you enough heat to get thick clouds2. I realized the holes I was poking in the foil were a bit to small and so not enough air was flowing over the coals and they would die within minutes. I started poking slightly larger holes and now the cocos have no problem staying lit and I get pretty thick clouds.
