gaia.plateau
Edit: well, maybe he's in the top 100.Joseph Nye Jr., Paul Kennedy, Niall Ferguson, Jared Diamond, Odd Arne Westad, Michael Albert, Jane Jacobs, George Monbiot, Kurt Vonnegut Jr., Shaun Nichols, Andrew Hurrell... just off the top of my head. In the video you posted Carlin seems to understand the things he's saying as an exclusively American problem. It's like that in just about any county you can name, and has been since the agricultural revolution ten thousand years ago. indian_villager
The system of trying to improve schools in the USA is flawed. Whatever happened to good ol' ass whoopins? When I went to school in India there was not a day when I did not get my ass whopped. But hell it worked!

dafunk5446
Yes I should have clarified he is ONE of the smartest men to ever live, he knew and understood the problems of social institutions such as government and religion, and addressed them in a comedic fashion. He addressed these problems from an American standpoint, but yes you could just change America to anyother country and it would be the exact same arguement. Im sorry if you disagree but the governments are fucked every where, some a little better then others but not much, and the richest people control these governments, like he stated they dont give a shit about us, they are in this game for themselves. The only reason we havent seen any real change in America in the last 40-50 years (since cival rights more or less) is that these people realized that as long as we have our Mcdonalds, flashy cars, and new episodes of American Idol, we will be content to put up with the bullshit they put us through, and smile and be happy with their proposed "American Dream". I do love Carlin but he's not saying anything groundbreaking, everything he says is obvious to anyone that has ever thought critically about this world, or read the works of anyone that thinks critically about this world (and is not a corporate stooge). What he did do though, was bring it to the attention of the American people on the large scale. What is sad is the fact that 90% of the people who watch him, smile, laugh, and go back to daily life and never think of it again. He has said what has always been said, he was not the first nor the last, but what makes him a really great man is the way he tied it all together and made us laugh.Dave Chapel is another one of these comedians, and again people only see him as funny and dont realize the deeper meanings of his comedy. Hordes of shit-kickers (both boys and girls) invaded my club to drink Pilsner, get in my face with stupid questions, request fucking cuntree music, and beat each other up. We had 5 bouncers on and there were nine fights going on outside at one point, so I actually had to roll up my rather expensive silk sleeves and help them out. Blood doesn't come out of silk easily And some douche wandered into the back and pissed in one of our garbage cans, so we beat the shit out of him and one of the bouncers crushed his face against the floor until the cops came to pick his stupid ass up. Growing up in east central Alberta, I put up with a lot of their shit growing up. Didn't help that I had a bleached white mohawk, and 7 chunks of metal in my face. I HATE country, I cant stand it, mostly because of growing up in Alberta. THERE WAS NO OTHER MUSIC ON THE RADIO, when I put in my deck in my car I left the antenna unplugged so I wouldnt have to ever listen to it in my car. If I left my cds else where I enjoyed the silence. I cant wait to move back up there, but I am not lookin forward to the ignorant hicks.
