Damn Coconaras! Epic Fail

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,
If you have a moment id like to tell you the story of my hookah party last night. 12 people, 3 people who had heard that I have amazing kickbacks and best hookah in the world and yadda yadda. So they come over, I bust out my KMs and my Turkish hookah and I had spent about 5 hours getting the garage setup and everything. When everyone came over they chose Fantasia Pink Lemonade, Nakhla Tropic Mix, and Tangiers K-Peach. Now this time I went out on a limb and used coconara coals. The last time I used them in a hookah party they had screwed up as well but when I used them alone after they were nearly as good as everyone says they are; Usually i use silver square coals, amazing coals. I had bulk coals on backup and 3k on backup backup. Setup up the bowls, started hitting, K-Peach went pretty well but harshish (I've smoked all these flavors before multiple times and I know well how to work them). Tropic Mix went well for the first 15 minutes and then Pink Lemonade was horrible from the beginning. Im 99.9% sure it was the coconaras and not the baccy. They were fully lit and everything I dont know what the hell went wrong. I switched to bulk and then to 3k but damage was done.
I blame coco-nara FULLY for the failure of my perfect night and will never use them again. I used to like them somewhat but never quite lived up to the hype for me.
Thanks for reading.

honestly I don't believe their is a good way to smoke pink lemonade the flavor just tastes gross to me its way to sour which feels harsh. Nakhla and Tangiers are unwashed and can easily get harsh. sounds like a bad night but i dont thinkt he coals were the problem.

yea sorry... not a huge fan of coco's either, but no way you can blame that problem on them... not after 15 minutes of heat anyway... thats on YOU. maybe your next party you shouldnt use YOU?

It may or not be cocos but it is more likely that it was a NEW FACTOR added during what would be a stressful and busy time.

i personally think adding new bowls coals shisha brands hookahs or anything else while there are multiple hookahs to maintain and manage + people and possibly alcohol involved will always end in tears.

i exclusively use nour finger coals because they are the only naturals i can get my hands on but the first time i used them was with 5 people at my house, the result? BAD session, harsh, no smoke, no flavor, coal taste, bad coal timing you name it

give cocos another try while you are on your own then decide if it was the coals or not my friend

heh, i hope the coco naras were not the problem. i just ordered 5 boxes of them after hearing how awesome they are...

Don't worry, they are very good coals. It shouldn't take more than a bowl or so to get down their heat management, if you're used to using a different type of coal. Less is always better, work your way up.

Sounds like ChromeCarz just was using too much heat overall.

sounds like a not fully lit or heat management problem.

don't you know you are not to do test runs on the night of. Got to get it down first then show off.

I dunno, I dont think heat management was the problem here. Coconaras put out a good amount of heat for Tangiers and Tangiers is a pretty heat sensitive tobacco. Makes me think they dont burn as hot as other coals. I can only put 2 of any coal on a Tangiers bowl, otherwise it burns. But most guys end up using 3 cocos for a Tangiers bowl. That's gotta mean they put out less heat or you would have a hellishly harsh session. I used three Coconara coals for Nakhla, where otherwise on an Egyptian bowl, I'd only use 2 or the stuff would burn. This just doesnt fit the MO of a heat management problem. But, that's just my opinion.

You suck! No, JK but I find that if I take my time with setup, everything works out fine. I find it super hard to believe that coconaras are to blame, as I have used many coals including TRUE silver japanese coals. If you are used to japs you may have used too many coconaras, because on a bowl where I use 3 or 4 japs I usually use 2 or 3 coconaras.

Some sympathy was more along hte lines of what I was looking for but...
Medium Phunnel, 2 cocos and half a bulk
Small phunnel, 2 cocos
Regular Egyptian, 1.5 cocos
I know how to smoke these flavors, tobaccos, and all...Ive had perfect sessions before with the cocos. But what I am saying is that cocos have been extremely unreliable with their quality management, I think you all misunderstood and thought I meant that they sucked (the i will never use them again was a rant statement as oppose to a real one...but i will never use them again without my silvers on backup).
Anyway thanks for the responses and for reading.

This.

Probably the last complaint anyone has every had in the history of Coco Naras is that they're difficult to manage heat for. Coco Naras are the queen bitch of easy heat management. I would trust my non-existent 3 month old nephew to manage heat for Coco Naras on a bowl of K-Peach.

For a medium phunnel you should be using 2 cocos with periodic windcover use.

For a small phunnel you should use 1 coco for the first 5 minutes, then add a second and you should be set.

I'm drunk as all fuck. Edited by gaia.plateau

Dang, I was going to try to buy them off of you if you really weren't going to use them ever again.

I love coco's but they sometimes do have a tendency to "go out" if not flipped a couple of times. Putting them back on the burner fixes that though.

No matter what everyone says, i dont like coco's. They just make the hookahs taste bad. I told george this but he wont listen lol. THEY MAKE HOOKAHS TASTE BAD.!!

I won't listen? Why would I listen to nonsense? No one else seems to agree that they "taste bad" from our group lol.

I smoke it, no "bad" taste at all, and I am the hookah master...soooooo you lose, and I win.

It's weird how different peoples experience with CocoNara is. Personally they've never given me a "bad taste", and when it comes to the heat management I think they're fantastic. Anyways, I've personally found them them to be really bad if they're not fully lit. Of course any coal should be fully lit before you use it, but (and this is based only on personal experience) to me it seems like the quality of the coconara delines more when not fully lit than other coals. So yeah. Remember to light them fully. I'm not able to use them with the shitty stove I use right now :/

I finally finished off a box of 16 of Coco's and really wasn't impressed. They don't add any flavor and ash very well but just don't get hot enough. I used 2 cocos on a standard bowl but still didn't get much smoke. I'm just going to stick to my 3 kings.
