Hookah Problems

I'm new to Hookah culture. I did it in Morocco and U.A.E. and it was fantastic. I came back to the states and bought a hookah to try (this one). I've tried all different kinds of tobacco, and they all taste both disgusting and harsh.

I was given a hookah in Turkey, and it's much taller and needs more water. It tastes better and isn't nearly as harsh. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong with my smaller one.

Any help? If I can't fix this I might be retiring hookahs at home and wait for my next trip to Dubai.

I would bet its not the hookah but more of the preparation, or heat management. What kind of bowl are you using? Probably an egyptian that came with the hookah. try less heat to start with.

Thanks guys. I broke up my charcoal into smaller pieces. It tastes better, although I don't get the same amount of smoke in my draw. Better taste is better than lots of nasty smoke.

Use a coal cover to control what heat you have and get the thick smoke you want. Edited November 16, 2008 by Kathrynx
