Nakhla’s Chocomint

Recommended Posts

Ah, 9:30PM here and on my 2nd bowl of Nakhla Chocomint. A special THANKS goes to Mushrat for sending this one my way. The boy's spoiling me.
The 2nd bowl is better than the first. I had to adjust a little. I never thought I would sample Nakhla going "mainstream foo-foo" with it's flavors, but seems they are trying to break into the "foo-foo" exotic Western market. Honest, they didn't need to in my opinion, but ah, what the hell. They did, and here I am smoking it. I'm glad I am!
The smell of this brew is so droolingly beautiful! I opened up the bag and immediately got hungry. It's as if I opened a GIANT box of After 8 mints. A wonderful balance between the chocolate and mint.
Smoking it is a little bit different however. For the first 5 minutes, the mint is much more concentrated than the chocolate. It got me scared of my first Nakhla mint experience, so I inhaled with extreme caution. Then I discovered it was okay, so I sucked the life out of it. The mint had a way of burning my throat slightly going in, but after the exhale, I realized a cooling effect. The flavor combination for the first 5 or 10 minutes is about a 70/30 in favor of the mint. After that, the mint settles down and the two flavors become more balanced. This is not overly sweet, but borders on the savory side of things. The chocolate is not too deep and dark but lighter than I would like to see it. In fact, I imagined this would be a thick, heavy smoke due to chocolate but it is very light tasting. The smoke isn't as thick as most Nakhla flavors, but is acceptable. I think anyone who like Yorks peppermint patties would enjoy this smoke.
Flavor:  Very well executed. I'm enjoying this flavor combination without it being a sweet wad of goo. There is enough sweetness to know what it is and to enjoy it. But with Nakhla's "impressionist" execution of its flavors.
Smoke Density:  It's okay. Not a typical Nakhla cloud, but with some minor tweaking, it will come around.
Buzz Factor:  I'm comfortable with it. I guess we really don't require a Nakhla strawberry type of freight train buzz. It passes.
Nose-Hitability:  Now THIS is important. Why? Well, um... Just because. I have a good solid 4 carpet tack to the nose.
General feeling of wellness:  Other than a slight stale aftertaste in the back of my throat, I feel good. The aftertaste may be due to some medicine I'm taking now, so the tobacco may have nothing to do with it.
Shisha Nazi Factor (A new rating letting you know how MRS Bubble likes it):  She admitted that this is a flavor she would enjoy smoking periodically. That'll be the day monkeys fly out of my butt. But she didn't curl her upper lip at this one. I call it her "Elvis Lip Snarl." She seemed to enjoy it.
All in all, a good execution of a classic flavor combination. Not as sweet as I anticipated it being, but I'm not too disappointed either. I would enjoy it more if the chocolate were a bit deeper, and the flavor lasted a bit longer. But, this is great attempt at the "exotic, foo-foo" flavor concept. It is a hit with me due to the classic Nakhla properties, but will be a hit with most of you, due to the lack of other irritating Nakhla properties. Not soapy, chemical tastes here boy and girls. Just Chocolate and mint on the light side.
TTFN,
MR Bubble
