wilarseny
Hi guys, I'm "new" here as of this weekend--meaning I've read these forums for a while and never contributed. Anyhow, that's all changed, and I was hoping y'all could help me with something. I recently cracked my back-up/shisha conservation bowl, was pushing it down just a bit too hard on the grommet and it broke. So I'm looking for a new one, and I'd like some recommendations. I've now broken two, this and this. I didn't like either especially much, though the Mya was better than the generic. In both I found there was a significant amount of shisha at the bottom of the bowl that remained unsmoked, even after flavored had long since disappeared in the smoke session--in other words, the bowls were too deep. Further, the generic just didn't quite produce as much or as dense of smoke, for what reason I'm not entirely sure. I guess what I'm looking for then is a non-phunnel (my first-choice bowl is a medium Tangiers phunnel, but I don't always want to use that much shisha and I don't use a mod/shisha saver like some do. I just find both approaches sacrifice smoke quality, since my phunnel technique is sufficient now to the point that I don't need to use the mod anymore). Back on topic, I'm looking for a non-phunnel bowl for occasional smoking--since it doesn't look like I'm far enough up on the list to get one of the sweet mini-phunnels--and I was wondering if y'all had any recommendations. I'd prefer it NOT hold very much shisha, as if I'm packing for a marathon I'll use the med. phunnel. Also, a shallow bowl would be sweet, though not to the point that the entire thing holds like 2g of shisha. If I'm not using Tangiers in the Tangiers bowl, I smoke AF or Pharaoh's pretty exclusively, if that makes a difference at all. Thanks, y'all. mbeck
Try a small classic Egyptian bowl, they are relatively shallow or you could try a "Syrian" bowl different sites name them differently but they are ceramic and are usually wide and shallow. They also come standard with most cheap Chinese hookahs or Havana brand hookahs.Hope this helps.Regards,MikeHookah Life

mushrat
Actually..i think both bowls are Myas..but anyways. They are all going to break eventually. Can't tell you how many Mya bowls of both types I've gone through. And at 5-6 bucks each, best to get an extra extra just in case.I guess for durability I'd say something in Myrex would be the hardest to break from everyday use.Personally, I just keep a few extra Mya standard bowls on hand for emergencies. AKammenzind
http://hookahcompany.com/chipped_egyptian_...d_2647_prd1.htm /threadMe and a friend bought 4 of those and got them in a few days ago, the damage (if you could call it that) is just as advertised: a few chips around the top edge. Doesn't affect a thing, and they're under a buck apiece, plus they work great with little shisha/heat. I'd get several (I personally ordered three). wilarseny
I think you might be right about them both being Myas, it's weird because one each came with the two Myas I own but I never see the wider one labeled Mya anywhere. Thanks for the links, stuie. I'd been looking at the Pyrex, and it's a good point that that would be harder to break. I actually do have a backup mya bowl but I figure now that I'm still angry at the last one for breaking, this is the time to upgrade ... I like the genie one in terms of design, any idea how well it smokes? Both that and the pyrex resemble the mod bowls they use at my local hookah bar (which always burns the shisha, but that could be the fault of coal management issues rather than the bowl's fault..). I read your review of the pyrex and so far that's in the lead, but.. spending 30$ on a conservation bowl does feel a bit silly, and almost defeats the purpose. I'm pissed that I just reordered Tangiers + coals, literally yesterday, getting the free pyrex with a 40$ order on Sahara is pretty unbeatable. Stuie
Well Sahara smoke has a special spend $40 and get a ribbon pyrex bowl for free... that's how I got mine. It's on right now I would take advantage of it if you are considering it. Only difference between mine and that is the coloring. Heck I might make an order for another one. erufiku
I have a MYA bowl as back-up or when I don't want to smoke too much... Had the one that came with my Bambino and it was amazing, used it for almost a year; only reason I don't use it is because I left it at my parents'. Had no trouble smoking all kinds of baccy, from Nakhla to Tangiers, just need to get the packing right for different kinds of baccy.I got a standard MYA bowl and it's pretty good but different from the one that came with my Bambino.Other than that I'd get an Egyptian bowl. They're great for anything non-Tangiers in my opinion.
Oggie505
I woudl get a tangiers wide bowl (not the phunnel), they are a nice size, heavy duty, and you may use it for you main bowl. All my others have been sitting on the shelf for years, phunnel, normaly cya, mya clay..etc.. Edited November 19, 2008 by Oggie505
mushrat
The regular old Tangiers bowl hardly counts as a conservation bowl though..sucker holds a lot of shisha...

My lounge here in East Lansing uses smileys bowls. I used to have one myself but i came upon an unfortunate accident whilst cleaning it one very dreadful day. I think they have some that they sell though.
