Why Didn't I Ever Think Of This

For cleaning why not just put it in a ziploc bag with some alcohol and salt and shake it up. The abrasive salt should clean it right off.

interesting....might have to try that.

Can you recommend ratios?

It really doesn't matter. Me an my roommates did it all the time in college.... I'll leave it at that..... An we'd just put the glass in the bag, fill it up with some rubbing alcohol, maybe a 1/2 cup to a cup full, then pour about 5-6 tablespoons of salt. Then you seal it up, an hold the glass in one hand, the top of the bag in the other and shake it for a while, gets a lot off just doing that. Then to get the tough stuff you can grab the salt and rub it where you need to clean. Keeps your hands clean, and it will clean like no ones business. Just a suggestion. I don't have a glass screen but if someone either wants to try it or let me borrow it to clean I'll make a vid or instructions. It's just like the cleaning solution they sell on hookah-shisha.com only simplified into the main ingredients.

We don't have a glass screen (thinking about getting on in the future though). Why can't we just put a little pam, or something equivalent, on the bottom of the glass before putting it on the shisha? We cook with the stuff, and I can't see it adding flavor as long as not a ridiculous amount is used.

Yeah I thought of this idea too, after my foil idea was so poorly received haha. I think this is actually a better idea than the foil, would take even less time and serve the same purpose without using foil, because some people are worried about possible health risks there.  As long as the pam/cooking oil doesn't impart any flavor that's probably the way to go.

But for a scalli mod... I still think one would have to wrap it in foil.

I use phunnel bowls (Duh, obviously) and foil over the top and they stay pretty clean, just rinsing with water.

"everybody knows cellophane causes cancer" The old "everybody knows" proof. Coincidently, in the South Carolina trial that overturned segregation in the public schools, the people testifying for the defense (in favor of segregation) said "Everybody knows blacks and whites can't go to school together". That was the basis for them keeping schools desegregated...the old "everybody knows" proof.

This is one of the drawbacks of glass, its harder to clean. Glazed ceramic is the easiest to keep nominally clean.

Nah, my idea is to avoid the hassle of cleaning the screen later. I don't see how putting foil on a glass screen would make it less effecient, it's not like aluminum foul should act as an insulator in that instance.

Duh.... Guys.... doesn't anybody cook in here? There are non-stick sprays that are totally natural and leave no taste. A quick spritz and even baked on charcoal comes off easily.
