So the other day I was browsing through that magazine section and picked up a XXL, which I rarely do, and they had an article about this kid named Asher Roth, he is some 22 year old white kid from the burbs that raps. You can download his mixtape for free at asherrothmusic.com and I'm telling you, I haven't enjoyed rap music like this in a long time. He sounds like Eminem in his voice, but raps about stuff that any white college kid would. Just thought I would let you guys in on this guy before he blows up!

I heard his crap a while ago. I dont really enjoy it. I feel like any drunk college scrawny kid could do what he's doing. I like old school rap that has meaning... Biggie/2pac/Mobb Deep/Gangstarr

You get the picture. I like Eminem too back in the day. I listen to Death Metal/Metal/Hardcore too but I also like old school rap...Always did..

Im not sure how old you are, but that is not old school rap. Kool Moe Dee, KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, now that is 'old school'
To each his own though

Unfortunately I didn't grow up with those guys that you mentioned, but I did with the ones I mentioned and more Ice Cube/NWA/ Older Dre ect..ect.. Dont like this new stuff including this new kid.

I know mobb deep and gangstarr make rap still today but I was talking about there early 90's I also love Mobb Deeps The Infamous(Favorite album to listen to as of late)

So yes early 90's to mid 90's rap is what I prefer. Edited by newjacksm

Long list

Good stuff, except I liked Aesop better in his early days. None Shall Pass was pretty good, but I don't think Bazooka Tooth or Fast Cars, Danger, Fire and Knives comes close to Float, Labor Days or Appleseed. Also, Music for Earthworms is underrated

Anyways, I'll supplement your list with the following:

Aesop Rock (This one a little older ^^)

Sage Francis

Edan

Saul Williams

Brother Ali

Souls of Mischief

Atmosphere

El-P

Sole (Mind the really shitty video, though)

Cage

Leak Bros

Gravediggaz

Madvillain

GZA

That's a beginning.

Ok does this guy sound like Infinite Eminem or Eminem Show Eminem? Don't know the difference, think Nas.

Ohh yeah Maybe Nas should be up there...

Balthazar, that Aesop song was curtains. I haven't heard his EARLY stuff you speak of. Early to me is Bazooka Tooth which I was pretty dissapointed in. I think he did his own beats on that which would explain a bit - just too dense for me.

- I'd never heard Sage Francis solo before - cadence is sweet.

- I first heard Edan live with Daggha is man he impressed me, especially when he spins, cuts, and rhymes at the same time.

- Love the Souls of Mischief beat, classic

- Not a big Cage fan

- That Leak Bros track was fantastic: I'd never heard them b4, the beat was killer, lovin the strings. Nice Advent Children vid lol - well crap, beat is RJD2, no wonder I love it. I hear Cage? I actually like it.

- I almost put All Caps on there too lol, looove the track, one of the best hip hop albums of the new millen

- Kanye West = Fail imo

Some lighthearted stuff from Murs and Supernatural, beat by Z-Trip. FOR ANYONE WHO LOVES CARTOONS AND CEREAL!!!! Love it!

Agreed. You should really check out Labor Days and Float. Personally I hold Daylight as his best track.

where is rakim?

+1 to those who mentioned Nas and The Roots.

And I know he's not "ole skool" but some anghellic or absolute power from Tech N9ne? Anything that Ruthless put out for BTNH as well, along with The Lost Boyz. some of my favorites to smoke to.

-50,000 to anyone who thinks lil wayne should be up here.
