Small Bowl Vs. Big - Which Is Better?

Recommended Posts

I've got one that is 2 1/2 inches and one that is 3"

For heating purpose is it better to use the smaller one so the coals heat the shisha more evenly...or should I stick to the bigger bowl? Probably a stupid question, I know...but I wanted to know what you experts think.

I'm trying to get the perfect session.

its not a stupid question at all. it comes down to preference. bigger bowl means you can put more heat on it, last longer. it pretty much comes down to how long you want to smoke. a smaller bowl is more touchy on how much heat you put on it, you could put a little extra heat and it could start to taste burnt. but the difference between 2.5 inches and 3 inches is very minimal so you probably wont notice much of a difference.

Bigger bowls also produce more smoke (with more charcoal), depth gives them longevity. Bigger bowls give "wider" hits, smaller bowls give "narrower" hits. I can't explain that. The hit off of a bigger bowl feels more plush. How about a car with a big engine and a car with a small engine. Both can go 60MPH, both can make 80mph, but that weak car feels narrower than the strong car does. It feels like you're pressing the capabilities of the car (or the bowl).

I have 3 "Party Bowls" which are 2 & 4/5ths inch accross and 1 & 2/3 inch top to bottom of the bowl (approx.). For 8 years I compare them back and forth with the regular sized standard bowl. I've found it just a matter of heat. The smaller bowl burns 3/4 as long as the giant party bowl and one coal is enough of course, while the party bowl needs 2. Its a less harsh smoke.
