Stem Inside Design?

Recommended Posts

I have just been to my friends place and we have been smoking his MYA colossus (or whatever its called, 40"). I noticed that his smoke wasnt as cool as mine, although i also use a 40".

So after the session i wondered what was up and disasembelled his hookah. Its looks very lovely on the outside with 4 huge balls on the stem, but i was very surprised to find out that inside was just a straight cheapo pipe.

I use this hookah, dont know the brand, apparently the shaft is made by a guy called Abu Ali who is quite famous. But whatever.

The thing is that my shaft pieces are solid, they are not separated into outside decoration and inside shaft. Just solid piece of metal. The shaft is also very rough inside and the diameter actually changes, i.e. little balls on the shaft are actually hollow and smoke passes thru them.

Unfortunatelly dont have any other 40" hookas around to test the idea. What about you guys? Ever thought about the differences on the inside?

i think even if the shaft of the mya are detachable, i do think they will seal up pretty well once they are assembled back again.. so it should smoke no different than yours will, the reason they make the stem detachable and removable in pieces is to make it more easier for cleaning..

as for the smoke not being cool enough, maybe he had too much coals on the bowl or he didn't put ice in the base?

Yes, many many variables. Although we do use the same coal and just regular cold water. But who knows...

Im just wondering if internal design of the shaft can make a noticable difference. I wish i could take a picture of the inside of my hookah, but i will get my camera back only in a week((

the one in the picture is a syrian hookah and i bet its a noor. looks beautifull .

What is noor?

The website doesnt say much. Glass painted by hand in syria, shaft made by hand by Abu Ali in syria. Very high quality, excellent thermal conductivity and good sealing. Syrian hose included, mya bowl included etc etc

Hey hey, if i can afford it, why not?

It does say Mya stem, but i think what they wanted to say is MYA bowl. Stem really doesnt look like any mya i've seen (i havent seen much though) as i said, inside surface is very rough and irregular.

Wow.

Personally hand made so I guess there's no brand? I hope the hookah smokes super duper lyzillyyyyyy well to cost 600 bucks.

As i said, the smoke seems to be noticeably cooler with it. I think due to stem design. The pull is very easy, in fact a little too easy, so i have to fill up around 1.5-2 inches of water above the tip. Cant say that much for the flavour as im still waiting for a good hose, mine sucks, it messes up the flavour, although the clouds are very thick.

The bottom that came with it sucks though. It is made out of glass and quite unstable. For 600 bucks i expected big heavy crystal.
