mustang_steve
Yep, a request for some advice.I recently bought a syrian style hookah, that can be upgraded to multi-hose. This of course means there was an ball-bearing valve on the hose inlet.Well, I was having problems with water collecting in the hose, so I pulled that bearing out...making it perform like a regular one-hose hookah would. Is there any downsides to this? Is there any way to keep the ball-bearing valve without having water collect in the hose? Thanks folks!
kvtaco17
use less water, the downstem should be under about 1/2- 1 inch of water, no more. I have had this issue before and if left alone it will start to ruin standard hoses...
mushrat
I agree with Kvtaco. You have too much water in your base and it is bubbleing/splashing up into your hose port. The bearing won't really matter on eway or the toher. Though i usually make my water 1 to 1/1/2 inches up the downstem.
mustang_steve
Thanks guys....I didn't think of that. I usually went for about an inch up, and just went by how hard it was to pull which is pretty much effortless since I pulled the bearing, but required a tiny bit of effort when it was installed.I'll probably leave the bearing out until I go to an actual multi-hose setup, since I like the draw without it better. I'll also try to keep the water level lower and see how that works out.
Giant Ninja Robot
important to know that unless you have washable hoses water is going to seep into the inner plastic bag material to the metal coils in your hoses and rust them. Your hoses might be on their way to their ruin, sorry dude. If you start to get a weird taste from them or blow through them and see red orange dust come out it's time for a new one. Sonthert
I have a Syrian hookah where the water level can't go above 1/8 " the bottom of the stem. Put water in your hookah (Using your auto seals or make sure the other ports are sealed) suck through one hose port with no hose attached. You shouldn't be able to get any water in your mouth. If you do, pour some water out and repeat until you can suck full force on the hose-port without getting water in your mouth. I've never subscribed to the 1" above the bottom rule. I've got a hookah that can tolerate 4" of water above the bottom of the stem. My theory is as much water as possible until you get to the point where your getting into the hose ports. mustang_steve
Thanks for the help folks....I looked again at the hookah, since I had decent results with the water about 1/8" up, but lacked the nice rumbling that this hookah lets out (literally shakes the floor about a foot from it).It turns out I wasn't even close in gaguing where the water was due to how dark the glass is...so I took a 12v xenon taclight to the vase and figured out the ideal level...I went up by 1/8" increments until I got where the water would be introduced, then backed off 1/4" from there....it's perfect.
