Pack Loosely To Get More Smoke?

Recommended Posts

They say to pack the bowl loose to get more smoke...how does this work?

The way I see it...when you pack it loose:

For one...you can't fit in alot of shisha and two, when you cover with foil the foil usually touches the shisha which would allow it to burn easier.

I thought you were suppose to pack it medium...pack it down a little but not too much and find a happy medium. From the videos I've seen they pack it way loose which almost falls on the floor.

Can someone explain this to me. I'm on a mission to find the perfect smoke. I've learned a lot from this site and I am thankful to have you fellow smokers explain the art of hookah to me.

It depends on the baccy and the bowl... and there's also a range, I guess you could say, of looseness that is best. Obviously you don't want it to be too loose, or there simply won't be enough baccy to maximize your smoke. That said, if you pack it too tightly, you'll lose heat circulation and cook the top of the bowl far more than the bottom - this will do three things: give you less smoke, give you harsher smoke, and waste shisha.

I always err on the side of looseness, unless it's Tangy's.

Lmao @ that vid. The only thing you can do is try until you find which packing works with which type of shisha. Nakhla packs different than Al Fakher packs different than Al Waha packs different than Tangiers (horrid grammar I'm drunk so sue me heh). Just gotta go ahead and figure it out really, I don't even think about it anymore... I just do, and it works great.

Who told you that? That's not necessarily true.

You can pack loosely or tightly and still get good sessions.

I'm a sucker for watching those damn Youtube videos...I guess that'll teach me.

hahahahaha andy the pacman.. you might not learn much from him, but i bet you learned that the foil goes SHINY SIDE DOWN!

btw, why hasn't' anyone made a video of packing a normal bowl for HF?

as previously mentioned, different packing methods for different tobaccos.

BUT i prefer to pack loosely because i find that it allows for an easier draw. and an easier draw = longer draw = more smoke volume = more smokesation....

This would be the ideal reasoning for packing loosely... though different bowls require tweaks to packing methods as well.

first things first, dont listen to anything that moron says in the video. he is one of those people that "thinks" he smokes really good hookah everytime.

-pretty much its like people said above, it depends on the bowl, and the kind of tobacco. you're right that there is a middle ground, if you pack it too loose it will burn quickly and and not have alot of smoke, however if you pack it too tight, you can constrict the airways and waste unburnt tobacco. its trial and error, and when you find the sweet spot just keep packing it like that.

+1

I have recently been "drying out" my really juicy tobacco. I spread it out in a paper towel and fold the towel over and ring it out. I fluff the tobacco (it makes this really easy too) load it in the bowl, and I sometimes ring out the towel around the sides of the bowl. The tobacco works really well and burns just as well. It does reduce the flavor, but that works for some of the really sweet tobaccos.
